After spending 220 hours of staring at pixels on my screen, committing heinous acts, and installing way too many mods I can finally review this game.

Yes. Uninstall all your games in service of the Obelisk.

Psychonauts is one of my favorite games, ever. I grew up playing this on the OG Xbox and I have delved hours into it learning all of its secrets. It's one of Tim's greatest creations and a darn good example of the kind of gold that comes from the team at Double Fine. I cannot recommend this game enough, in fact, you should buy this game for your friends.
There is way too much here to like and pack into one review.
In order to emphasize this, I have to tell you a story.

My first memory is of my dog, Lady. Lady and I used to go for long walks. They would go on and on and on. This one time we went on a walk we called "The Longest Walk of All Time." First, we went to the end of our street. And then we walked three miles. And then we had a snack. And then Lady had to go to the bathroom. And then I bent down to tie my shoe. And then Lady saw a gopher. And then we walked three miles. And then we stopped and asked for directions. And then we got attacked by bees. And then you bought this game.

I really wanted to play this game with my fiancee for about two years. I just bought it a few days ago and the game will not launch. I tried to find solutions to it online, but it black screens on launch and no one has any solutions for this.
I have tried multiple resolutions, restart and reinstalling all amounted to nothing.
I really don't want to refund this game, but I have to.
I did multiple tests and was able to run Cyberpunk, GTA V, and Control with no issues. I have no idea what is up, but it makes me sad.

UPDATE: Found a fix under a "Known Issues" post pinned in the community tab on Steam. Unfortunately, the developers fixes do not work (including running beta and previous versions) and this appears to be a known issue with multiple people reporting this and still no fix is available.

The game works on my Steam Deck and the weaker, 5 year old PC in my house.
I have no idea why my OP system cannot run this game. More than two monitors, maybe?
Anyway, I still cannot recommend this game to people in good conscience because it did not work for me out of the box and not everyone is privileged enough to have multiple devices to run and test a game on. Hard pass.

Early Access Review
TL;DR
---------------------------------
I was gifted this game and was unable to play it, it would not load after multiple attempts at troubleshooting.
The game has other issues also, I do not recommend it at this time.
---------------------------------

Pros:
I was really excited to play this game when it entered EA. I was attracted by the real places, accurate maps, and the ability to build/improve transit lines within existing cities. I'm a huge bus nerd and loved the types of buses used in the game.

Cons:

The game is in German at times and other times English.
In the settings, there is an option for language, but you cannot select anything.

After downloading the maps for North America, I attempted to play a game in Sandbox mode.
Unfortunately, the game would not load.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, playing different game modes, and nothing.
The game would not load after waiting for long periods of time. This was disappointing as my system is a bit overkill in terms of the CPU and GPU.

The developers are slow to respond in the Discord and the community seems to ignore people asking questions in what appears to be a game centered around community development.

Overall:
I'm very disappointed in this experience. I do understand that the game is in Early Access, but at minimum, I expect it to load and play. Would I come back and revisit this game again after it is fully launched? I would consider it, but not at this price point. I cannot recommend the game in this state and have issued a refund for my friend.
Please follow the development from afar if you don't like any of the things mentioned in my review.

Don't believe the hype about this game. Well, tbh this game is really niche so I don't think there's any hype LOL.
Elite Dangerous is, at its core, a space flight sim. Under that surface, the game presents you with several different activities and ways to engage with it. It is up to you how you play this game. If you're the type of person who needs clear direction and a linear story, ED is not the game for you.
However, if you like making your own story in the closest 1:1 scale of our galaxy and losing yourself in a world, I would recommend this game.

Exploration, mining, combat, trading, landing on planets, FPS combat (most recently), the game tries to offer as much as it can to the players. The story, background simulation, and choices that we get as a community really shape this game for me. Honestly, I will probably never stop playing it.

So in conclusion, if you like open-world flight sim games and have an interest in space and sci-fi, I think you will find something to like about Elite.

Early Access Review
I usually don't leave reviews because I'm lazy, but this game is honestly worth it.
THIS is what I've been looking for over the past 20 years.
Blizzard had a chance to do this with the Diablo II Remaster and screwed up royally.
This game has everything that I want in it from this genre. You can create your own server and have ladders and progression resets.
There's a huge world with PvP and World Bosses, base building, crafting, it has everything!
For Early Access, this game is damn near perfect. If it can get even better, amazing :)
I would recommend this game to anyone who liked the old school Diablo games or likes open world style crafting games.

Edit for Update: The new update is nice, though I haven't grinded to endgame yet, I love this game and the communities you can find within PvP servers. I have to be honest, I've never played this game PvE and I don't see why you would. There's little, if any, reason to play after getting all the V Bloods unless you just like crafting games with your friends. PvP pretty much makes the game for me. I believe Gloomrot is a 3-part update, so they hopefully have more planned for additions. The game is still developing, but I'm hooked for the long haul. Thanks, Stunlock!
