I felt DICE was taking this game in the right direction with seasons 2-5. I was really starting to enjoy this game during the season 2 release in October 2022 when patches had many of the early bugs addressed. There was a fun, steady stream of content over the past year and it really felt like they had re-captured the classic Battlefield gameplay formula.

However, I cannot recommend this game in its current state today.

They have chosen to re-balance all classes based on 1 infantry-only map released in season 6 this month, when all other maps are mixed vehicle and infantry maps, rendering some operators almost useless. Seasons are becoming progressively longer with less and less content being released. I have little hope they are going to do anything with Battlefield Portal, it just seems like a gimmick at this point. Having cross-play is nice, but there are still no dedicated servers for quick joining ongoing games. The matchmaking system is taking longer and longer to find games, often placing you in a lobby that never fills or starts a round, forcing you to quit and retry. Connection issues seem more prevalent recently. I have often seen a quarter to half of a team drop connection suddenly for no reason and AI bots fill their places which leaves matches very stale.

Given the short support timeline of BFV, I don't expect support for this game to last much longer. It's likely they are placing their efforts toward the next battlefield game at this time, but the future may change and hopefully we could see some dramatic improvements to BF2042 again.

I am a Hyper Light Drifter fanatic, but this was a very different game with its own unique aesthetic. It is a solid game with traversal, platforming, rhythm, exploration, and light combat elements. The level design and boss battles were an absolute blast, and voice acting was done very well. I thought the wall climbing sections felt a little out of place and slowed the pace of the game a little too much, but I did find myself enjoying the exploration of each area for the journals, caches, and side quests the game features. Overall it’s worth a purchase, and makes me look forward to Heart Machine’s next title!

This consumer’s interest was piqued. Maybe they stumbled across this page on accident, like a discarded newspaper tossed open by the wind. Maybe they were just passing by a conversation on the street, and heard the name ‘Cloudpunk’ thrown around a few times through light clouds of cigarette smoke. Either way, they’re here...

A decision had to be made. Purchases weighed, and doubts had to fade. The roar of the neon city called them, veiled by damp atmospheres of heavy sound and smog. Why was the reviewer so vague in their description of this item’s creation? Was this cryptic writing style going to offer them anything?

You look past this poor schmuck’s spectacle of paragraphs, pick up your package, and head off toward your next destination. Holding down the accelerator, skimming under the rolling lunar clouds of this damnable city.
