Stop reading this review. Go buy the game. Get three friends to buy the game. Go into it without doing any prior research. Trust me, that first run will be hilarious. Going in blind is so much better.

The game is good. It's hilarious, because your friends are there, and it's terrifying, because your friend just got his neck turned around 180 degrees and the shadow monster that did it took him away into the darkness, leaving only a trail of blood.

So, I love this game. Seriously, it's awesome. It just captures a sense of wonder that I don't see many games accomplishing these days.

Unfortunately, once you beat the main story, you start to see just how empty the game is. There really isn't much to do in endgame but build cool stuff. If you love building awesome bases and such, absolutely play this, you'll have a blast.

And the worst part is, that's where it ends. That's it. Chucklefish has basically completely abandoned this game. Not officially, but it would take a miracle for Starbound to get any more updates.

Luckily, the community comes to the rescue! There are THOUSANDS of mods that add so much to the game. Frackin' Universe alone basically transforms it into an entirely new experience.
So, while I do recommend this game, as it is awesome on a first playthrough, I only recommend sticking around if you enjoy playing with the mods and building stuff. The game will most likely never see another update, which is a shame.

GIANT DINOSAUR OH GOD RUN

Can't even play online because I missclicked at the age select. Plus, even if you're like 16 you should be able to play online. Gameplay is solid from what I can tell though.

The story is kinda meh, but oh mah goodness...

The open world gameplay (including some missions) is amazing. The outposts, the guns, the guns/fangs for hire. It's hilarious fun.

Thank you devs, very cool. Much fun, especially with mods.
