"The worst enemy you can meet will always be yourself; you lie in wait for yourself in caverns and forests. Lonely one, you are going the way to yourself! And your way goes past yourself, and past your seven devils! You will be a heretic to yourself and witch and soothsayer and fool and doubter and unholy one and villain. You must be ready to burn yourself in your own flame: how could you become new, if you had not first become ashes?"

This is by far the best WW2 FPS game I have ever played.

It's probably not a good idea to buy this game if you scare easily. Red Orchestra 2 is best described as a PTSD simulator - even in a victorious battle you will probably suffer at least one soul-devouring death. The only way to succeed in this game is to embrace the motto of "high risk, high reward." To embrace that motto means putting yourself in some horrible situations... every veteran RO2 player knows the adrenaline rush of being trapped behind enemy lines, completely cut off from reinforcements and fighting viciously for survival. It is something that you have to experience for yourself, it's badass.

This game can be INCREDIBLY immersive, especially when the voice-chat is used as intended (for tactical reasons, rather than by trolls mic-spamming). Unfortunately the RO2 community has an unusually high number of mic-spammers due to the integrated voice-chat, if you choose to join this community just make sure you don't join in with idle chit-chat over VOIP.

It is a beautiful thing to be part of a team that is actually functioning AS A TEAM - it's even better when the enemy team is functioning properly as well because the true potential of this game only reveals itself when you are being challenged by your foe. It is often more interesting to play for the "underdog" team against any "stacked" teams because you are really forced to play at a higher level. Red Orchestra 2 is ALL about rising to the challenges, that is what makes it great.

Overall, Red Orchestra 2 rewards the cunning and the daring. It is the type of game that you can lose an entire day playing without even realising until you notice the sky outside has gone dark. There is a steep learning curve but when you make improvements to your playstyle, you reap the rewards.
