You can SPRINT, and that's also all you have to do to break stuff in the environment now.

This game...I was looking for something to tide me since I was bored.
I found SO MUCH MORE in this game.

Now, quality of life wise, the game is lacking in a few areas, No fast travel or detailed map to help with maneuvering through the different areas, you can't just return to the main hub...and a few other things I can't think of now, but it's minuscule compared to the Pros this game has.

The actual game-play itself is phenomenal. It's one of those games (ie Undertale/SMT/Mother/Persona/Insert other awesome turnbased RPG's I can't think of) that takes all you knew about standard turn-based combat, and flips it on its head.

You're given a period of time to do WHATEVER you want to the enemy in your allotted time. You're a bit limited in the beginning, but as you level up your skills and combat abilities, you do some CRAZY (SMOKIN' SEXY STYLE) type ♥♥♥♥ later on.

It AIN'T just you though. Enemies get tougher and gain shields, limiting what attacks you can use, so you have to play tactically and utilize all your tools. They have complex attacks that can become HELL for you to block and PARRY because....uh...if you don't parry you're pretty much ♥♥♥♥♥♥. So, get guud.

The skill tree gives you the choice to pick whatever upgrades you want as you unlock them. (I remembered a qual of life issue...) You can't refund the skills you invest in...so choose wisely. However, some GREAT upgrades are sometimes hidden behind meh ones, (I say meh, but it's more-so useful if you aren't good at parrying. i.e. Defense boosts.) so swallow the bullet and get those to get to the GOOD stuff. Don't feel obligated to purchase all you have just because you have the blue/orange orbs to spare. Save them, wait for GOOD ♥♥♥♥, get that. (Up to you though.) :)

The Metroid-vania style game play comes from the other half of the game: Exploration. You journey through landscapes that look really cool and are funny to platform around in, though they're only memorable in the sense of: "Hey, I've been here before when I got 'X' thing, I need to go this way instead." DON'T GET ME WRONG, I love the simple, yet beautifully-cool style of it all, but you'll find yourself getting lost fast if you wander aimlessly. (I still had fun just wandering and platforming, but you DO want to progress.)

Your "map" is a small grid that can stay open with your character as you go about your business, though it's very generalized. "You are HERE, You either HAVE or HAVE NOT collected 'X' thing HERE, other 'X' things are shown in a general direction which somewhat gives you an idea of where to go. I like that this isn't hand-holdey like most games are, but at the same time, you DO want to progress. (Can also just give it your all, and if all else fails, use a guide :) Like I said earlier, main issues are quality of life stuff, so it doesn't bother me too much.)

To touch on the combat, the GOAL is to build up your meter and "absorb" your enemy to gain points that go toward unlocking new abilities (Passive and Active) However, I LOVE just beating the ♥♥♥♥ out of the enemy and learning to completely decimate them. You CAN "kill" the enemy, but you don't get any upgrade points if you do that. You need to strategize what moves you use because using the same ones will stale and not fill up your meter as much, BUT WILL DEAL THE SAME DAMAGE. THIS IS B A D because remember: Your goal is to absorb the enemy. You can't do that unless your meter gets filled to a certain point.

Some enemies will have a "displayed weakness" you take advantage of that and use said attack to target their weakness and gain extra meter fillage. In some cases, your enemy will have J U S T enough health to get the meter filled, so that you can attempt to absorb. If you guess all the button combinations right, GREAT! If not, you both go back to your starting positions and the enemies health is healed, allowing you to build up meter and try again. (Just gotta say...THIS IS A REALLY COOL COMBAT SYSTEM for a T U R N BASED GAME. :O)

I want this game to do well, It's VERY MUCH worth your time to at least try the demo. I don't see many people not liking this with all it has to offer. I think if you're REALLY bad at games, the parry timing m a y be rough for you. Aside from that though, this game is something you should try and if I had the money, I'd buy it for EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT USES STEAM. I'm not kidding. Not to mention it's only 20 bucks? Sign me the ♥♥♥♥ u p.

Awesome game, came from P5R to play this and I'm not disappointed. There will be a few things that frustrate you if you are also coming from the same place I am, but if you're looking for an awesome JRPG to play then this is it. Well worth the $20, but get a controller to play with. It makes the experience so much better....
Also Yukiko is best girl, @ me.
