The concept is really cool... for the first 10 minutes. After that the gimmick stops showing its shininess and you find out how dumb this game can feel. This is a very generic shooter with only one twist (You can control two characters and freely swap between them). And if you don't find that mechanic attractive enough then you won't find any reason to play this game.

I liked the experience. The music was amazing. People dive too deep into meaning and the message that this game may or may not convey. But in essence, it's a program that you run to look at a pretty scenery and listen to sweet music. Nothing more, nothing less really.

This game was a really nice experience for me. Sure there were one or two rooms that I didn't like. But overall it's a beautiful game even in 2021.

Pros: Good parkour, awesome graphics by 2013 standards, The windy areas actually feel windy, sometimes the camera shake is a bit but you get used to it after a while, The weapon upgrade system is nice and the crate droppings giving you weapon upgrades REALLY make you search out every single collectable in the area.

Cons:
One of the things I noticed is that Lara falls from like... a million things. everything breaks only when lara steps on them but the rest of the map stays completely still most of the times. It feels as if Lara is the only person in the map who can actually touch things. There's a compilation of Lara falling on youtube and it's almost a minute long and it doesn't even show all the falls. Lara falls from some type of height every 2 minutes, I go "That's it! Ribs broken. She's dead" but no. She's just up and fine. The game feels less of survival because of that cuz you know everytime something breaks or something happens Lara will just get up and run 10ft up a wall like nothing happened. So you expect everything to break. and when they do you just wait till the cutscene is over. After a while you start losing interest in the story and the gameplay.

Played through the main storyline and the ... other one.

Gameplay: This is one of the games that target a specific audience. The ability to pick and rotate any object gives some variety to the methods a player can use to solve puzzles and make hiding spots. The storytelling is entirely done through flashbacks and papers that we have to read. If I had played through the whole campaign 5 years ago I would've just skipped all the story parts and papers. But on my play-through I actually read everything I could find. I relied heavily on the notes system. This is a first for me as all the other games that have journal systems for clues leave some visual hints so players who don't read will be able to solve them. However, Amnesia: The Dark Descent completely abandoned the approach of holding the players hand and made the game a full head dive into a puzzle that the player has to solve with his/her own wits.

Story (Spoilers for Dark Descent and Machine for pigs): The story always seems to be the same for Amnesia games. The player wakes up from deep sleep and soon finds themselves at a loss of any memory or hint to how things are around them. As the game progresses the player dives into insanity as they uncover their own evil side. They fight against themselves just to survive the horror that they're heading towards. It's always one character and one faceless antagonist having a converation, one in the past and the other, the future.

Atmosphere and tone: Suffering and torturous procedures seem to be the primary theme for the games. The game is very poetic as the diaries describe the thoughts and journeys of the faceless character who soon meet their end. Death is rampant in the story of the game.

Graphics: As the castle is made of wood and stone, Gray and Brown seem to be the primary colour for Amnesia if we exclude the most common view we see in the game... pitch black. The game is dark, very dark and for good reasons. Managing light sources and keeping the insanity of the players mind from taking over proves to be a constant struggle for those who play the game leisurely. And so the visuals of the game force the player to seek light sources and wander around the lit areas more so as to not collapse from insanity.

Overall, Amnesia: The dark descent still holds up as a well made game. It is definitely worth a try for horror enthusiasts.

Played it with a friend. It's quite difficult but it's fun at the same time. I haven't gone through the whole game but from the few levels we've played, we ended up having lots of fun. It's a top down arcade shooter with aliens, traps, item drops and ammo management. sounds like a stereotypical top down shooter and it is. But it's a top down shooter done right. Worth a shot.

Me and my buddy played through the whole game and we both loved it. It's great. Even though it gets a bit confusing at times and sometimes I felt like I solved the puzzle but I didn't figure out the solution the right way. There seems to be a story, but It's all too confusing for me. Too much to see, too much to focus on even though the whole place is basically empty. The story isn't the main point of the game. It is the puzzle-solving and the gameplay which makes the game worth playing.

Watched pewdiepie play it. Wanted to play it myself. Ran like crap on my old potato pc. ran like crap even after I upgraded my pc. Nevertheless it is a good game if we disregard the poor performance on my machines as there are several configs that can run the game perfectly fine. It's a mansion of puzzles but only a few ways to carry out objectives. It's like a less sandbox version of Hitman: codename 47. But that shouldn't stop you from trying out this game. It's an experience worth living. Give it a try if you find the concept interesting.

I originally played outlast and finished it on an office pc build at 6fps. I was very naive. But that contributed to the good memories I have with outlast. The way it presented itself as a horror game where there's no hope and everything seems to play against the protagonist. It was really an enjoyable walk from the start to the end. The theme and the atmosphere is what brought Outlast 1 to its fame. The memorable threats, the countless youtubers making videos playing the game. The first jumpscare. It's all too good.
