Early Access Review
I haven't played the game since the steam launch and now, as of July 28th 2024: the game won't even launch on my desktop.

Thanks again!

Where to begin with this Paradox Interactive classic?

It's the single greatest media representation of the entirety of the Victorian era and beyond, with great power geopolitics through the form of spheres of influence, an infamy system, and colonization. It displays the industrialization of the west and the ever increasing technological disparity of the world throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Its warfare systems and mechanics are quite damning but can be mastered by the most daring grand strategist; combat in this age heavily emphasizes the exponentially expanding killing power of weapons and armaments during this period, thus defensive terrain, technology, and a decent commander will always dictate upon the battlefield (that, and raw numbers: less you be the Qing).

There is so much that one could say about this games, especially when one factors in all of highly dedicated modification projects which have no doubt extended the timeline of this game to the point where many still love and play this aged game into 2021. There is and will never be anything that can compare to Victoria 2, she is a once in a lifetime game that even the current devs at Paradox can barely understand.

If you're going to play this game, play is the right way... with mods! The hordes of DLC that you have to buy are annoying, so just get the ones that unlock the playability of certain groups (Merchant Republics, Muslims, Jews, Indians, Norse Peoples, and nomads if you so desire, besides that get Way of Life and Conclave since they make the game more challenging but semi-realistic). If you're going to play with mods, I can make a few suggestions. If you want a more realitic, historically accurate, and more immersive game, I'd suggest the HIP mod (Historical Improvement Project), it might as well be the best mod I'ved used when playing CKII, so go check it out. If you're sick of the old medieval setting, I can recommmed the CKII AGoT mod, After the End (AtE), and that Warhammer mod that some friends coerced me into playing. The DLC might be a bit too pricey for you, so wait for a steam sale or make some cheap purchases on {LINK REMOVED}, I promise, this game is well worth it.

I am no avid football fan, nor do I completely understand or follow soccer, but I love this game to death!

I've learned so much about football since I started playing this game, and I didn't even have to start at the finest Premier or first division clubs, I started out as an unemployed journeyman manager. I applied for jobs, I learned the game and the politics of the sport in the hardest ways, consistently losing league game after game, losing star players, losing my club tons of money, signing worthless contracts, losing my job after being caught trying to find a better managing position. The learning curve is something to awe at, not be discouraged by. The level of depth and excitement that you can experience from this simulation game is tenfold more than that of other soccer games such as PES or FIFA. Every loss is a learning experience, every draw calls for a tactical change or a player swap, and every victory and subsequent goal is so rewarding and fufilling. This is nothing like any other Football game out there, this is well developed and beautiful, and the modding community is just as great. I'll give this an 11/10, and as an American I am proud to exemplify this game as the greatest Football Simulator developed as of yet!

This is honestly one of the best Fantasy, Turn Based Strategy, RPG game I have ever played, it literally reintroduced me into the Fantasy genre (which LOTR did for me a long time ago) (I am also an AGoT fan and I even play the CKII AGoT mod all the time!)
