TLDR: An enjoyable game, sullied with an inexcusable amount of bugs and issues.

Dying Light 2 is a fun game.

But like a lot of new games, it feels like it arrived prematurely.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first Dying Light and Dying Light 2 for the most part delivers as a sequel. Combat is fun, Parkour is a thrill, The story is ..okay (Which is fine!). It looks lovely (For the most part). But hot damn there are so many bugs and performance issues, I do not even know where to start.

Co-op when it works, is fun. But again, there are just so many bugs. There are often times where an NPC or mission object just wont show up or trigger. I have lost count on how many times we have had to restart our sessions to get missions to work. Sometimes enemies and NPCs don't sync at all, or are even visible for all players - leaving us rather confused and eventually irate as we are once again forced to restart our game.

Performance is another issue. Ray-tracing or DirectX 12 Ultimate seems to have a performance degrading bug - the longer you play, the worse performance seems to get. This continues until the game is basically unplayable. Without Ray-tracing the game seems to suffer less, and performs quite well. But there are still abundant stutters and hitches, which seem to of been made worse with recent patches. The last update we recieved was on the 16th, and we have yet to hear anything from Techland.

Visually the game looks nice. It's not leaps and bounds better than the first game, which is fine. But there have been some admissions and downgrades which have left a lot of people stumped.
The anti-aliasing is atrocious. I know TAA can be hit or miss, but Techland really did an awful job with its implementation. It is very blurry and aggressive. The only solution is to either brute force and downscale with DSR/DLDSR or VSR, or disable it entirely within the video.scr config file.
Some textures are pretty awful - especially the green goo in the distance (You will know it when you see it). Certain foliage and trees can look particularly awful too at a distance (Also seems to be a lack of self-shadowing on all grass and trees, which does not help at all).
Gore has seemingly taken a back seat this time around. There is a lack of blood splatter decals all around.
Flash lights do not generate shadows at all, which is weird once you notice it (You also cannot see your friends torches in coop).

Pre-order weapons are still not usable. Yes, they are mostly useless at mid-game. But offering as an incentive to pre-order and then having them not work is terrible. Those who paid infinitely more for the Ultimate Editions also cannot use some of their bonuses either. Again, terrible.

Denuvo - Now personally. I've never had an issue with it. I am pretty sure most of the games performance issues aren't related to it. But the nature in which it was made public, and being 3-4 days prior to launch, left a bad taste in a lot of mouths. Denuvo takes a lot to implement well, So it was not likely just slapped on at the last second. They could of said something many weeks earlier.

Now I still love this game. It is a lot of fun. And I am sure Techland will solve and fix a lot of the issues plaguing many users. But I feel they should of never launched the game in the state that it is in. I know its becoming the norm with many new titles: Launch now, patch later. But some of these bugs just seemed so prevalent and obvious, it boggles the mind how they got through.

Would I recommend this game? In its current state, no. I'm a stubborn soul and have put 120h into the game and for the most part it has been fun. But I've also spent a good 10 hours trouble-shooting, restarting my sessions and trying to work around issues that should not exist in a well-made game.

I will happily change my recommendation to YES, once Techland patch and fix their game. Because at its core, it is solid game - Its just stained by all its bugs and issues.

This is a fantastic game. Gameplay is fun, the writing is funny and the style is fantastic. All that combined it is a charming game to play.

Though despite the removal of GFWL and the move to Steamworks, there are still a lot of issues with matchmaking. The stutter bug still exists unfortunately, despite many saying it has been fixed. Though it is nowhere near as bad as it was back on GFWL. But since TakeTwo now have IP rights, we should see some patches and fixes.

Should you get this game despite the bugs? Definitely. It's 80% off and the developers have acknowledged fixes are on the way. So it will only get better (Also maybe more DLCs are on the horizon? ;D)

As a founder who's played Firefall since the beginning, It saddens me how little progress has been made with the game.

When it was closed beta and in its infancy, a lot of its flaws were excusable - It was new and the devs had a lot of awesome plans and ideas. But several years later a lot of the flaws and dull game mechanics still exist. The constant changing of major game mechics have not helped, only making the game duller and in my opinion (And many others) worse.

Red5 tried to please everyone and failed.

There are also infinitely more rewarding and fun free-to-play games out there. So go play them, and give this a miss.
