GTFO REVIEW

GTFO is not your regular shooter on the market. its a completely different type that identifies itself as very unique and interesting. GTFO heavily utilises its surroundings, sounds and vibe to entice and to immerse the player(s) and it does so very successfully. With the latest Rundown being Rundown 7: RISE . This new Rundown brings a visual and mechanical over hall that in my opinion greatly does GTFO a justice. Previous rundowns felt claustrophobic in some areas which where great in some areas, however this claustrophobia feeling has quickly faded after Rundown 5 as the rooms have been expanded vastly and gives more of a hollow and shallow feeling that excites me. And with the inclusion of the visual/mechanical overall, its as good as a Morning coffee and a spliff.

GTFO isn't for everyone though. if you like running in and killing lots of zombies and shooting everything that moves. then maybe DOOM ETERNAL is that game for you. GTFO slows things down into a strategic objective based zombie survival shooter which i haven't seen ever. Ammo and resources are limited, communication is key but not always essential and teamwork makes the dream work. GTFO can go from a slow paced green light red light shooter, to high intense combat in a second. one wrong move or kill can either beat you to your breaking point or kill you. That's why teamwork is very essential to this game and that's one of the many reasons why i very much enjoy GTFO. However with everything, it has its negatives....

Replay-ability and progression has always made me come back to play older games like HALO and with this, this is where my problem starts and fades. GTFO has progression but in a way that's fitted with the theme of the game. It used to if you completed specific bulkheads (which I will get into soon) you would get more physical cosmetic items. Now its if you beat this level you get the gear no other bulkheads are necessary which does upset me as it takes away the grind and the replay-ability of this game. However with new players who aren't familiar with this game will prefer this way of unlocking cosmetics which I cannot be upset about. Unfortunately there are no other types of cosmetics in this game expect for physical ones. These include Mask, Tops, Trousers, Backpacks and Overall Colours. A nice selection however due to my extensive brain rot and fried dopamine levels I'm left blue ballsed with not only how you unlock them but there isn't a reward/incentive for completing harder bulkheads. I NEED MORE

However as of 03/12/2023 all the older rundowns which include:
Deviation
Infection
The Vessel
Contact://Extended
Rebirth://Extended
Destination://Extended

Are now available to play and this to me was the update that makes GTFO one of the best hardcore co-op horror shooters of today. There's over 70+ levels to play ranging from the easy 1st rundown to my personal hardest rundown being the 5th one REBIRTH. You now get to experience GTFO to the fullest ( still waiting on that 8th rundown 10 CHAMBERS ;) ) now onto my personal favourite part about this game... The bulkheads aka 'layered difficulty'

Layered difficulty without a doubt in my opinion is a god sent for GTFO. You have 3 different types of difficulty being in the form of bulkheads. first you have;

HIGH:
The High bulkhead being the main objective and primarily the easiest one. This one can be anything and is normally shown when you are choosing which level to do. These bulkheads contain your standard enemies but can also hide some horrific monsters.

EXTREME:
The Extreme tests even the best players in GTFO and in FPS's. Extreme bulkheads can be very easy to do but have extreme consequences when beating them ( for example Rundown 4: B2 Extreme). Id recommend Extreme for the player who knows the mechanics of the game and is looking for a good challenge. These bulkheads can contain horrific monsters such as BIRTHERS AND TANKS but with teamwork, can be killed quickly and efficiently

#ER02:// OVERLOAD:
Overload tests the patience and skills of the best of the best GTFO players. These bulkhead objectives are gruelling, hardcore and can break your spirit into multiple pieces. These bulkheads contain the most extreme enemies that will either make or break the run. Such as SHADOWS, SHADOW SCOUTS, SHADOW SCOUT CHARGERS, BIRTHERS AND TANKS but with very good teamwork, communication and strategies, beating these levels feels so rewarding and pleasurable.

And if you manage to somehow beat all of the bulkheads in a level, you unlock the secret medal which is PRISONER EFFICIENCY . This medal is the most rewarding and also the most challenging. I was only able to get 1 of these medals in Rundown 4 being on A2: "FOSTER". But to anyone that has been able to get the medal i tip my hat off to you Sir/ Ma'am.

The Weapons and gadgets in this game feel bulky and hard hitting which i love personally. The different types of gadgets to help you complete the levels look and feel so good that honestly brings the immersion to a whole new level. every gun and gadget has a purpose and can be used in different scenarios in levels that can benefit you greatly or if used wrongly can do more harm than good. I wont cover all of the weapons and gadgets but my normal load-out in this rundown is the Heavy SMG, Revolver and Bio Tracker. The hard hitting heavy smg feels incredible to shoot with and had good range, good ammo capacity and hits very well. Same thing with the revolver and the Bio Tracker to scan any Scouts in the area or to ping the on coming hoard.

Overall GTFO isn't your run and gun zombie shooter, its a game that focuses on teamwork, environment and strategies that no game has been able to do it in a way that GTFO has done. It feels super immersive and every hit and every shot feels damaging and hard hitting. Progression and replay-ability do lack somewhat in this game but with the inclusion of layered difficulty and boosters and the fact all the previous rundowns have been implemented to this game, it looks like 10 Chambers are doing something about it and i cant wait to see what they'll do in rundown 8 and the future of GTFO.

OVERALL SCORE: 9.1/10
