I never played the board game.

Very intimidating and overwhelming at first but after a few games all the tiles and resources start to make sense and I generally can figure out what strategies I want to go for. The last few turns of the game always feel intense as you are desperately looking for what tiles/cards/etc will get you your last few victory points. Very satisfying and fun.

lots of fun. works well as a FFA game and works well with multiplayer (different pause/game speed options). the 4X elements are fun and lead to different strats to win. the game is not too stressful but also enough to think about to make it interesting and replayable. the dune universe "lore" is turned into fun game mechanics like sand worms and spice fields. even though the game borrows from RTS and 4X genre, it feels pretty unique still even compared to northgard.

i love this game. best physics for any "x-sport" game. fun terrain/parks. i'm a skier IRL and it doesn't really matter that this game is just snowboarding. the physics just make the game fun and satisfying regardless.

all the parks/terrain/spawn points are part of the same "map". you can use a drone to set your spawn point anywhere you want, not just the default ones. each park/area feels like it has its own style and theme. they all offer something a bit different.

the missions are cheesy (really cheesy voicelines) but they are kinda fun and show you the different parts of the map pretty well.

This game is pretty fun. I wouldn't describe it as a 4X game even though it looks like it from the outside. It feels more just like a strategy game with an emphasis on managing your resources. I don't mean that as a bad thing, but don't expect to feel like you are developing an empire or anything.

I like the simple graphics, music, and time period.

It has a large variety of maps from the real world, but I personally wish it had procedurally-generated maps as well.

Early Access Review
It's unfortunate there was so much pressure to release this game early, as it's clearly not finished. I am a big fan of the first game "The Forest". What they are trying to do with this game is great, and when complete I think it will be a fantastic sequel. In it's current state it's very empty/lacking details and doesn't do a good job of telling the story.

It has a new building system which is really great. It has blueprints like the first game, but also an interactive building system. You also get an NPC which can do tasks for you, so you don't need to do the tedious tree chopping and can do other things while the NPC does that for you. However, it doesn't feel satisfying to establish a base in this game as it's just not really needed. Once playing a bit you kinda have everything you need, and a base with established storage etc. just isn't that necessary. I hope this will change as the game is completed and things you need are harder to come by and the AI is more interesting in the way they attack your base. The game also currently has very few traps which was a fun part of basebuilding in the first game.

The game still has exciting exploration which reveals really interesting and surprising things about the island and makes you wonder about the storyline, which is something I really liked about the first game. But again it just feels lacking from being an unfinished early access game. The various caves need more to them, and the cut-scenes don't really tell the story very well at this point.

I will be replaying this later when it's finished. I would not encourage anyone to buy this game now but re-visit it in the future. I do think the devs will finish their vision for this game.

this is one of the worst shooters i've ever played:

-terrible UI and interface. the pip thing has a cool "fallout" look to it but it also functions as bad as it looks. for a game with so much crafting/loot multiple weapons/armor with all different stats/conditions/etc. the little pip thing is so annoying to use
-can't move stuff around your "quick wheel" except one convoluted way. your quick wheel is determined by your favorites which determines your hotkeys...your favorites are set using the little pip thing which has a million menus, one of which is your inventory, and one submenu is your weapons...setting this thing up is the biggest headache.
- if you hold ADS between shots (cycling a bolt/pumping a shotgun) you won't ADS until you let go of mouse2 and click it again...i mean wtf
- Y and X axis mouse sensitivity is different even if they are set to the same in settings
- sprinting lowers your mouse senstivity (why???)
- tapping strafe cancels your sprint...for a game like this it's just so annoying
- your character starts out with roughly 0 stamina so have fun walking across a boring world
- if you thought pip interface was bad wait until you try to navigate the crafting menus

the game's draw is that you can COOP fallout, but most instances you can't progress with your friend -- you have to play them separate. maybe the monthly payment version you can do this? pretty lame.

might as well be swat 5. it's really good. this is the only game that really captures the fun of the swat series for me.
