It isn't just a reskin of campus or hospital, it has unique mechanics but with the same Vibe. I love it, and i'm ready to lose too many hours of my life to this game over the upcoming years

this game came out 6 years ago and i am about to play it again. it is a good game.
pros:
has a defined plot and end goal scenario, so you always know what you're working towards
characters/the story are interesting overall. i've replayed this game to completion a couple times and i still enjoy interacting with them

in between: the grind. if you like grind it's fine, there's plenty of things to do and you'll pick up tricks as you go (especially with the dlc) some may dislike it or find it too much, i enjoy it, because i am a horrible nerd.

cons:
npcs mostly only appear on certain days, which can sometimes leave you waiting an entire week because you forgot something.
could have used better quest tracking.
the characters don't have a lot of conversation options or variants. i don't really think it's too much of a con, though.

Fun loop, increasing difficulty and challenge, new things unlock over time, runs don't take a huge amount of time. A good drop in and out game.

Honestly, it's an ok game. But that's all it is. As long as you know what you're going into w/regards to lack of actual variation in tasks, simple management with some time management and rng... then it's up to you. I just can't really say that it's worth the £20 price tag. I played the OG version back in the day and I can't really say that the years have actually improved it. Maybe if it's on sale.

Look. The Gemcraft series is probably THE most solid series of TD games out there. There's a little plot and lore for you to get into if you like, the mechanics are good, it's easy to get a grip with but is still challenging to master. I recommend the entire series. If you like TD games then you're gonna like this. It's a game I come back to time and time again either for something casual, or to sate a craving for tower defense - and I can get sucked into it for hours at a time. I have spent almost half as much time on this game as I have on Skyrim, in total (between the original and the remaster).

It's definitely worth checking out. For the price, you can't really go wrong.

(And also check out the other games. I really wish they'd bring those out on steam!)

Don't watch anything about it. Just play it. It's worth the experience.

The sense of humour is on point. It's funny, the mechanics are solid and addictive... I'm biased since I've been playing Kingdom of Loathing since 2005 but Asymmetric Publications games are always worth it
Edit: The game has been out for years. I still think about it.
