This game, beyond its -many- outstanding and obvious pleasures, its tone of beloved genre classics with sharp, playful modern design, also contains a Nabokovian meta-narrative, Pale Fire recast as a game anthology with Greg Milk playing the role of John Shade and the player sitting in for Kinbote. There's 50 games here - I haven't tried them all, and I've only beaten 15 so far- but any number of the ones I've played would have been my every day had they been around at the right time of my life. Maybe the right time is now. Time to get lost in the Wild Zone again.

Full disclosure: I have another 1500 hours on this game over on my Switch.

It's a masterpiece, one that comes along in gaming once a decade, if we're lucky. Its influence is outsized in a variety of genres, not just the wave of deckbuilding roguelikes. From a design perspective, it's tightly wound and precise - each decision is important, interesting, often novel, and context-specific. Narratively, it does so much with so little. The characters featured here have real character, but little of that is told by art or writing; by and large, that character is shared mechanically.

I'd recommend this game to anybody interested in deckbuilders or procedural gameplay. The game is tough, and having a background in Magic or another card-based game will ease the entry point. But the game will teach you by losing, so long as you have the patience to keep trying. I could write a lot more, but I feel like going to go play another round. Or two...

Game crashes in online play pretty frequently. It's excellent Worms otherwise.

An interesting game that does a poor job of representing its deeper mechanisms. Some systems found here more fascinating than others; some vexing. Districts, wonders and improvements make for this extremely satisfying layer of city planning that I'm ashamed evaded me for too long. People talk ♥♥♥♥ about the AI, but it still makes for interesting games. Great flavour.
