This game was fun, it felt like an evolution of point & click puzzle games, but realistically it's incredibly short, and not really worth the full price. If you can get it on sale for half off or more, it's worth picking up

This game is absolutely incredible. It sent me on an emotional rollercoaster, and it's absolutely worth full price.

I love this game. It's fantastic, fun, casual, and I've sunk thousands of hours into it. However, in the current state it's in, it's NOT worth playing. Bots run by criminals have taken over the game, where they instantly kill you, doxx/swat anyone who tries to fight back, and slander them calling them pedos and other heinous stuff. This is because of Valve's negligence and lack of caring for the game. It's been like this for two years, and if you're new to the game, stay far away until valve nuts up and fixes the problem.

UPDATE: They fixed the problem

I haven't played a ton of portal 2 mods, but this game is probably what's gonna get me into them. These guys knocked it out of the park, with fantastic puzzles, witty writing, and over atmosphere and feel.

Here's a handy little guide to decide if this game is for you. If you like D&D, turn based games, and interesting characters, this game is for you. If you don't like those three things, this game is not for you.

If you're a horny ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, this game is absolutely for you.

Verdict: It's pretty good, pick it up on sale, probably $20 or less.
PLEASE NOTE: I did not try this game in VR. All of my experience will be from the M&K point of view.

This was a pretty good experience from the start, and It's very good for what it's worth. Considering that this is an adaptation of an old point & click game, this game does have some things that just feel like time wasters. The underground railway section, the elevators, and many other sections have you just click & wait. Click & wait. Click & wait. Click & wait. It can be a bit annoying, but this game had me doing things that no other game in the past 20 years did. I slowed down, I took notes on an actual piece of paper on what was going on, and it was great. The puzzles were really good overall, and had me think of different, creative solutions. Most of them don't feel unfair or archaic, which is quite an accomplishment for a remake of a game that's a quarter century old.

Overall, 7/10. Not a necessary experience, but an experience that's worth it.

This game was an incredible experience. From the top to the bottom, each area felt like an intricate puzzlebox, and once puzzles started incorporating crossing areas and breaking things out of the areas, it became ten times more fun.

Tl;Dr: It's a good game for a sale, I'd recommend waiting for a sale that knocks it down to $10 or less

I got this game on sale for the 2023 winter sale, and I can say it's pretty good for the sale price. I've seen some reviews talking about the physics being clunky, but I've either gotten used to it by my second playthrough, or it's not that bad. A couple of notes first; I played this game on a Dualshock 4. It has full support for the controller, including glyphs, but I'll be talking about the game from the perspective of that. For keyboard, I can't speak to it. Let's get into the good and bad.

Good:
It's an easy game to get good at. There's not a ton of mechanics, but once you learn that you should be jumping all the time while using guns, pairing that with the [SKILL] Air Dash , combat feels so fluid, and I have fun just moving through the levels.
Quickly riffing off of that, movement. You get movement skills throughout the game, and they all add to a toolkit that feels natural. My only complaint here is that they didn't do a super-metroid-type-thing, where you have the abilities throughout the whole game, but they just don't tell you about them until later. That's just a small nitpick though, and getting the abilities throughout the game give you a reason to go back through levels, and it feels awesome to plow through older levels with new abilites.
Combat is a fantastic part of this game. Clearing levels of enemies is also a ton of fun, as it's a balancing act between using your guns, combat abilities, and melee. Just a quick summation, your guns are mostly better than your melee, and combat abilities trump both. However, you recharge your combat abilities by doing damage with your guns and melee, and you reload your gun by doing damage with your melee. Each weapon plays differently than the others, and having a good loadout for bosses and clearing levels is essential.
Bosses are also really good. They test you, and there doesn't feel like a single boss that's a dud. Each one has interesting mechanics, and use your full toolkit.

Bad:
There's not a ton about this game I didn't like, so this section is gonna be full of a few nitpicks.
This is not a long game. Levels are straightforward most of the time, and even though the secrets are well hidden, there's no real incentive to hunt them all out if you're not an achievement hunter like myself. Sure, you get decent weapons and some skill upgrades, but getting a weapon from a secret location kinda feels bad, since you know you're gonna replace it soon anyway.

For my personal thoughts, neither good nor bad
The story is a bit bare-bones, but it's not terrible. It's a simple tale, and one you can choose to interact with. There are no long, drawn out cut scenes, which I like, but the story doesn't feel too intertwined with the game. A lot of things are just hand-waived away as "you're an arbiter, this is what you can do".
Art style is pretty good, i think the pixelated look on the simple models is a pretty good aesthetic, but that's not a big deal to me.

All in all, it's pretty good. I'd recommend picking it up in a decent sale.

I'd like to start off by saying the store page isn't lying, a controller is definitely what this game is meant to be played with. Anyways, onto the review. For a TL/DR, This game has a solid 8/10 from me. For context, my favorite games from the past few years have been Metroid Dread and BOTW. Dread would get a 10/10, BOTW would get a 9/10.
I do recommend this game, and I recommend that you take your time with it. I'll start off with the positives, then the few negatives I found in the game.

Pros:
  • The movement feels great. It's not perfect, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ if just moving around isn't satisfying. In turn, the platforming is very nice, and it does feel rather refined.
  • The story follows the "Show, Don't Tell" principal. You don't need to give a ♥♥♥♥ about the story if you don't want to, but if you pay attention, you can catch bits of the story unfolding as you're going through the game, and piece together what exactly happened.
  • The world feels large, but not overwhelming. If I could describe the world using another game, it'd be The Legend of Zelda if it were a top-down 3D platformer. The world is large, and your actions both impact the world, and "naturally" open up new paths & the way forward.
  • Exploration is a lot of fun. Just going somewhere to see what's there is a great time, because most paths that take longer than 20 seconds either offer a sword piece, heart piece, energy piece, or even a new skill to unlock.
  • Character progression is satisfying. By killing enemies for the first time, you get Experience orbs, which you can spend in the game's workshop (which conveniently has a fast travel capsule right next to it) to unlock new skills. You can also find skills to unlock in the world, which you do have to pay for in the workshop, but if you're exploring enough to find the skills, you're most likely gonna have enough exp to pay for them.
  • There's also a series of cloaks that you can find and unlock, but they require a special collectible aside from just experience. Each cloak is a sidegrade to stock, which opens the game up for a few simple, yet very different playstyles. The first one lowers your health, but boosts your speed. The second boosts your health, but lowers energy recharge. The third lowers your health, but boosts your energy recharge. If you don't like any of these, you don't even have to use them. It's fantastic.
  • Combat feels great. It's always your fault when you die, as there's never weird ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that comes out of nowhere.
  • The aesthetic style of this game lends itself to longevity. Even if you're playing on medium graphics, the game still looks really good, and the "Stone Magic Tech" aesthetic is personally one of my favorite styles.

Cons:
  • This game is lacing a bit of polish. There's an area you can get out of bounds really easily, there's a few graphical issues, and there's some very minor bugs that are easy have happen accidentally.
  • There's not enough combat. There's really only one official boss fight, which I'll get to in my positives, but having more boss fights, with some new mechanics, would have been phenominal.
  • There's a weird, arbitrary line for fall damage. Some ledges are small enough for you to jump off of without dying, others will just kill you instantly. Some make sense, others are just weird and unintuitive.
  • There is a little help when it comes to completion, but not enough if you want to go for 100%. It'll show you what you've collected, but not where you collected it from.

All in all, this game was very fun. I enjoyed my time with it, and even found myself wanting to 100% it. If you want a nice, almost old-school feeling 3d Platformer, I definitely recommend this game. $20 is for sure a fair price for this, and if you find it on sale, I can't recommend picking this up enough.
