The game takes place in a utopia where islands are created by the gods of the world to eventually create the perfect society. Paradise killer is essentially a murder mystery game, however every player in this blood bath has a part to play. Your part is that of an investigator who gets called back, after centuries from imprisonment, to solve why this society fell and who is to blame for the murder of the council members.

The main meat and potatoes of this game is interrogating the colorful characters and being able to connect the dots between everyone's alibis and stories. There's a really handy in game journal that does an excellent job at lining out everything you know and telling you what leads you may want to follow. I found myself really invested in almost every one of the suspect's backgrounds and characteristics that kept my interest. Which carried very well written narration that weaves everyone together over time. If you're looking for a deeply written detective story where all you have is rumors and hidden in game crime scenes to explore, this is a perfect game to try out.

The coolest part about this game is that you can prosecute and enact justice at any moment. However, if you don't have much evidence to pin the villain you may get a lackluster ending. The game-play is essentially an open world visual novel. Yes there are a few puzzles and a few times where you may have to use an item to access new evidence, but those moments are far and few in between. There are a few side missions that are essentially just fetch quests, but they do enhance the world building and can give some interesting insight to how this paradise functions.

Although I have a few gripes with the game. The open world aspect sounded really cool when I first played, but some places felt a bit empty apart from a few collectibles that don't enhance the experience all that much. Also whenever you pick up a collectible you get a slow transition screen telling you what you have picked up, even if it's the basic currency that you have picked up hundreds of times before. It slows down game-play significantly and annoys players who try to 100% any game. The world is beautifully constructed, but it gets old after running through the same areas over and over again. There are a few story moments I found that literally give you the solution for some of the mystery's that kind of ruin the enjoyment of putting together the puzzle pieces yourself, although they are a little difficult to get to. I just don't think a mystery game should reveal the answer to player, out right, no matter the time put in or what secrets they find.

This is an excellent little mystery game that does something unique and maybe a little innovative in the genre of visual novels. As the sound of open world may just seem like a novelty, it really helps sell the world and its world building. The narrative and writing is exceptionally well done and helps give life to its characters and the paradise they resign in. Visually, it looks outstanding and ties the world together. The soundtrack has a lot of great tracks and fit that vapor-wave aesthetic world you explore. The audio design could use a little work as some audio cues can sound pretty grating on the ears and will bug you with its constant chimes and alerts. It's a decently lengthy mystery game that I think is worth a try if you're interested in the style and narration it brings to the table.

It has been a while since I've played a game within the puzzle genre, and I can say this game truly cured that itch. I see many people comparing this to Portal or the Talos Principle, (Both of which are all time favorites of mine). While it does take a lot of inspiration and ideas from both, I don't think it is fair to compare this game with either of them. However, if you liked either of those, I would recommend picking this up.

The Puzzles:
The Turing Test brings a lot of new toys to play with that I haven't seen in many other puzzle games. Just when you get the hang of one mechanic, a new one will appear changing the way you go through the tests. This constant incorporation of new mechanics allows the game to never feel dull or tedious. The difficulty of the puzzles were never really challenging to me, but I still had a lot of fun figuring out each room. If you are new to the Puzzle genre this would be a very good entry for it. Even if you're a pro puzzler there is still some good fun to be had.

Optional Puzzles:
There are a total of 7 optional puzzles that are slightly more challenging, and each having their own, never used again, mechanic. I really wish these were just more complex and challenging rooms that explored that new mechanic, instead of just figuring out how a mechanic works and moving on. The only optional challenge I really enjoyed was the Boolean Logic Puzzles as it actually expanded beyond one puzzle . This may seem a tad nit-picky, but I feel the game lacked some extra challenge for those that wanted it, and these optional puzzles would have been the perfect place for that.

Story
I actually found myself pretty intrigued with the world and setting of this game. The whole game is themed around the idea of robots crossing the line where they become nearly impossible to distinguish from humans. It also sprinkles in a handful of other moral dilemmas centered around privacy, the greater good, morality, and freedom. I did see a lot of the "twists" coming so nothing really took me by surprise. The audio logs and documents found gave a lot of insight to the characters and story that were all well written and never felt like an exposition dump. The one character I particularly enjoyed was the AI/Robot TOM, I was very worried they were going to be your generic AI robot gone bad, but TOM had some nice depth to them I was not expecting. Overall, a decent story-line that guides you throughout your testing journey.

If you're looking for a quick little puzzle game that isn't overly difficult, or a sci-fi story that makes you question many of life's mysteries, I would highly recommend checking this game out.
