When it came out this game peaked at about 150k players. Now it can't even maintain a 150 player average total. Imagine releasing something so unpalatable that your game drove away 99.9% of the player base. I feel terrible for all the artists and people who actually cared about this game seeing their work get absolutely ♥♥♥♥ on. This product is gamer sanitizer, kills 99.9% of interest.

Having just reached level 99 since acquiring this game while it was still in early access, the real question is, for the base game, at (as of writing) $56.99 CAD, is DJMAX RESPECT V worth it?

...Maybe? I've spent a lot of time playing osu! mania, more than I'd like to admit, but RESPECT does come with a significant number of advantages. For one, the quality of the patterns is on the whole, of a much higher degree. Of course this would happen between a professional studio and a community driven game like osu!. The kind of crunchy quality that RESPECT is able to give when handed studio quality tools is impressive.

Specifically, hitsounding. For those unfamiliar with the genre or any of the used comparisons: Hitsounding is when a piece of the song, a lead guitar note, or a vocal sample, is attached to a note in the pattern(song) that comes down the fret. Depending on how well, or indeed, when you hit that note, the sound will come out along with it. This fundamentally means that if you play the song better it will *literally* sound better. osu! mania, and osu! in general does have the ability to import hitsounds. However it is usually limited to hi hat hits or whistles layered on top, as the community is unable to isolate the individual aspects of the song and sample them for hitsounding, whereas every song within RESPECT is designed with hitsounding in mind. (With the exception of the Cytus, Deemo and CHUNITHM DLC's)

At the end of the day what you are paying for is a premium product. The UI is sleek and responsive, BGA's are captivating and imaginative, the customization options for notes and frets are plentiful and rewarding to obtain. However...I reached level 99 with every single released DLC available to me. Mind you I played almost exclusively on the 4 Keys mode, but if I was relegated to only the songs in the base game, I'm not sure if I would've make the trek all the way to 99. MOSTLY because they want you to pay $13 to unlock the songs you have ALREADY PAYED FOR and are simply too lazy to grind out. Having such a restricted song list bummed me out.

TL;DR
DJMAX RESPECT V - Base game: 6/10 get on as heavy a discount as you can or you'll be paying out the nose
DJMAX RESPECT V - All DLC: 9/10 THE DJMAX Experience. The best one, period. Absolutely massive song list with the premium polish means you can smash those keys forever, I hope on your wallet you waited for a sale!

P.S. ♥♥♥♥ the anticheat, let me play offline ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Having just reached the credits scene all I can say is: wow. Disco Elysium is a beautiful watercolour mural that shows so much depth and imagination it boggles the mind. The story is rich and captivating, the dialogue is clever and cutting, the choices are novel and break typical rpg formula. The leveling system is robust, and truly you can have whichever stats you'd like. There is almost nothing I didn't like about this game. Hat's off to the studio, this is one of the best RPG's I have ever played. If you like gritty detective drama and a deep compelling story, try Disco Elysium.

10/10
