Don't blame me for all the time you'll lose playing this game.

Can't recommend it as it is now, because both games freeze up on my Steam Deck regularly. To be fair, it seems to not have the same issues on PC, but if you were looking to play it on Steam's handheld it'll give you headaches.

Survival crafting game with active devs that listen to their community. That alone is worth a recommendation in my book.

Oh, and the game is pretty fun too.

If you enjoyed Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (or any of IGA's Castlevania games), this is absolutely a must-have. I Kickstarted the game, and couldn't be happier with it.

PROS: Metroidvania, by the guy who made it a genre. Big, progressive map to explore. All sorts of stuff to loot and find. Several options of how to play your character; from melee heavy, to ranged casting and firearms. Fantastic soundtrack. Hits all the nostalgia buttons.

CONS: If I have to list any: most of the bosses are a little easy on normal difficulty, especially if you took the time to top off your gear and/or took some time leveling - but, that's not really different from any other game with gears and levels. Only other thing, it can get a little grindy if you've really gotta have that special item/ability - but it never felt like it was required for progress at any point.

Early Access Review
After quite a bit more time in the game and several updates, I'm revising my review and giving it a recommendation.

The most recent updates to alpha 18 and 19 respectively really improved the game, adding (and changing) a lot of mechanics and updating the appearance of the game. If you like survival crafting, you'll sink a lot of time into this game. Maybe even more so if you have a good group of friends that like to play together.

It also appears that the game devs have softened a bit towards their community, which is a plus. The notion that the game is still in "alpha" after 7 years is still a little bothersome. But, they're still working on it, so credit needs to go where it is due.

*Old review below*

Could honestly be a great game, if you don't mind it being in alpha for five years and the updates only rolling out about twice a year.

And the devs are right jerks to the people who have invested in their product.

If all of this changes, I may change my review. But, for now, I can't recommend anyone throwing money at these guys until those changes come about.

It's games like this that make me leery on supporting early access games.

Good game, but the Uplay crap is really annoying. Had to google why I couldn't play the game I bought, and why it wouldn't install correctly.

When things are running right and Uplay isn't a pain in the ass, it's a lot of fun.
