This is a great card battler. On the hardest difficulty, there is a good level of challenge. It has a funny and decent story with well-defined characters. The sound design is excellent.

I strongly recommend this game for anyone that likes RPG card games with fun deckbuilding.

The gameplay is addictive and fun. The story is silly (in a good way) and it gives purpose to the grinding. I'd recommend it to anyone who likes a well-designed grind motivated by story requirements and easily- achievable rewards.

A great mystery-solving and deduction game. The story is extremely well-told, with great voice acting throughout. Gameplay is innovative and very enjoyable.

The visual style is a little unusual, but I got used to it after the first few minutes.

I'd recommend this to anyone that likes gripping, story-based games.

A great game where you get to choose from a wide range of spells to heal your allies. The skill trees are well-designed and complex. I'd advise taking the 5th spell slot during the character creation as it adds depth.

On hard, the game is tough but fair, though re-speccing is (almost) necessary for some fights.

The characters have distinct (and amusing) personalities based on RPG stereotypes. The comedy is solid, with several particularly good lines.

I enjoyed playing Kingdom of Loathing (browser game set in the same universe) several years ago, so I was very interested to see what Asymmetric had come up with. It exceeded my high expectations - there were plenty of occasions where I could not stop laughing. I have played quite a few highly-rated comedy games that didn't really impress me, but WoL certainly did.

The gameplay also worked well - the game has a good RPG and combat system. The partner and class systems give replayability and meaningful choice (although there are plenty of meaningful choices to make throughout the game as well).

Overall, I'd recommend this game to people who are after a funny RPG - it's the best game I've played in this category.

This is a great detective game where you actually have to make deductions. The acting is intentionally slightly over-the-top but it works well for the game. The story succeeds in intriguing. The hint system works well - you can call up the police chief and tell him what you've found and he will point you in the direction of a contradiction. The low budget didn't impact my enjoyment of the game at all. The game has a good ending, though there are some loose ends that still need to be tied up in a sequel (not yet known to be in development).

This is a great solitaire RPG with a decent story and excellent gameplay. The music and art suit the setting well. The game is clearly made on a budget but this didn't impact my enjoyment of the game at all.

Being a card game of this kind, there's plenty of RNG. It can sometimes lose you a run. However, you have a number of tools to deal with unfavourable situations and skilful usage of them can frequently make the difference between a clear victory and a terrible loss. In particular, spare cards and jokers in your hand, coupled with active abilities with cooldowns allow you to manipulate the board to your advantage. I'd suggest restarting most hands until you go first with a decent start to give you a higher chance of getting a win.

The RPG elements are also solid. You can customise Shadowhand (the character as which you play) using skill points and gear. For skills, I would recommend ignoring Luck and Insight as I found them less useful than the others. For equipment and weapons, you'll generally have 1 or 2 clear winners for each slot and weapon that sometime change according to your opponent strengths. Gear (single-use items) can help you out in tough fights. I ended up saving almost all my gear to the end and ended up not using any on the final boss - it may have made things easier to be a lot more liberal with gear on the earlier levels.

It is reasonably easy to 100% for those who care about such things. Completing the game on very hard also unlocks the achievements for normal and relaxed.

Overall, I'd recommend Shadowhand to anyone who likes card games. If you're looking for a fairly casual experience, I'd suggesting staying away from Very Hard mode as this makes good concentration and multiple attempts important in fights, particularly if you're trying to gold them all.

System Crash is a fun cyberpunk CCG where all the opponents are controlled by the computer. Most of the fights are a bit too easy, but the plus side is there are no frustrating areas to get stuck on. The game is fairly low budget, but that didn't impact my enjoyment of it.

You can (and should) build your own decks for almost the fights and there are lots of viable archetypes (some stronger than others). A few cards are brokenly good: there's a 1-drop that draws 2 cards and there's a board reset for an effective cost of 2. If you're not a fan of deck building, you can copy online deck lists, though you'd be missing out on part of the fun.

The story is decent but not exceptional some parts a little predictable but there are also a few surprises. The gameplay + the story was enough to keep me interested and wanting more.

I'd recommend this game (+ both the DLCs) for people who like CCGs. Completing the game (including DLCs and playing a lot of the tournament mode) took me around 30 hours.

This was a mediochre game up until it broke: at one point, you need to collect some bronze ingots. If you do this in some orders, there is no way of continuing the game without restarting completely. As this is around an hour and half in, this is rather frustrating.

I would advise avoiding this game as it has a gamebreaking bug that the developers seem to have no intention of fixing.

I'd describe this game as 'solo, stealth mass effect'.

Solo in the sense that you are on your own. In some missions you will have allies on the ground and in all you have an audio link to your handler, but there's no concept of a squad. There are, however, a rich range of well-written characters you'll encounter on your journey. Many of the major NPCs can live or die depending on your decisions and this shapes the world throughout the game

Stealth is optional, but recommended. You can play every mission loud if you want to, but it might lead to problems for yourself or characters in the game. The stealth system is a little tough to start with. There's no charge-up time before NPCs start seeing you like in the Assassin's Creed series or Payday. However, after investing skill points in the stealth upgrade line and getting a feel for vision range, remaining unseen becomes a lot easier.

The Mass Effect series is the closest RPG I've played to Alpha Protocol in terms of overall design. Sure, one is an espionage game and the other is science fantasy, but beyond that they are quite similar. They feature an interesting, ongoing story consisting of a string of missions. In between missions, the protagonist rests up in a hub area where they can purchase items and choose which mission to undertake next. Gameplay consists of TPS action, interspersed with meaningful choices and hacking minigames. Choices in a mission can have a huge impact on subsequent missions.

The game does have its flaws: mid-lategame combat can be a little easy with certain skills, there are a few minor bugs lurking around and the story is a little generic in parts. Despite these issues, it's a great game that successfully manages to provide a good balance of action and dialogue. I'd strongly recommend purchasing if you enjoy both stealth games and RPGs as it blends the two genres excellently.
