No official servers online, but still two community servers left. Don't bother using the Steam client, though.

Complete failure of a game. What a disaster ...

If I could play only one game for the rest of my days, that game would be Dwarf Fortress. There is nothing else out there with the ridiculous level of complexity this game offers. Having said that, to honestly represent this game one can’t ignore its shortcomings.

Even with the Steam overhaul of the User Interface, there is still a lot more work to be done there. The majority of players new to the game will find it near impossible to figure out much of the game mechanics without constantly referencing the wiki:
https://dwarffortresswiki.org/

There are bugs. A lot of bugs, some of which have been in the game for a decade or longer. Historically, the developers seem to have devoted much more time to adding new features than bug hunting. Will that change now that the game has gone commercial after over 16 years of being freely available? I hope so. Many of the bugs are relatively minor inconveniences with workarounds, but some of them are more serious, causing game crashes and even save file corruption. Anyone who plays should save often and keep backup copies of their saves.

While this game can be played casually, it is not a casual game when it comes to learning how to play it. I’ve been playing video games since the Atari 2600 days in 1979 and I’ve never come across a game with a learning curve as steep as Dwarf Fortress. Learning the game is an on-going process. I’d say a significant part of the game itself is the process of learning to play it and the emergent experiences that go along with that.

So after reading all that as a prospective new player you may be thinking “Well, that sounds like a pain in the ass. Why would I bother?” And that is a completely understandable reaction to which I can only say that if you are among those who are able to appreciate what this game has to offer then you’ll find it scratches an itch that you may not even have realized was there. An itch that no other game I’ve ever played is able to scratch.

Dwarf Fortress is an experience that I believe most gamers won’t connect with. But for those who do enjoy it, it’s a masterpiece in the making.

Initially charged $39.99 for the game claiming no forthcoming sales ... and now sells the game for $9.99 with a 90% discount ($0.99) during the Steam Winter 2022 sale. And even at $0.99 I'd argue it's not worth it.

The game is pretty much dead now. Darn shame ... it looked pretty cool when I tried it in 2016 but I never made time to revisit it. And now hardly anyone plays it, which is a death-knell for a multiplayer experience.

Great little comedic game that heavily mocks the negative impact that DLC has had on electronic gaming. It's between 2 and 2.5 hours of a platform game with some adventure elements to it. There's enough amusing dialogue that entertains to go with the relatively basic gameplay. Definitely worth the $2.99 and arguably more relevant than ever in 2022.

Early Access Review
This is a tech demo not a game. No options/settings menu. No apparent option to save your progress. The ESC key quits the game with no warning, lol.

I rate this game Worse Than My Butt Gas. If the developer returns to make it into an actual game, I'll update my review.

Been a while since I played this. It's okay ... but there are definitely better games for your time.

What the hell is this game?!! I mean ... I guess it's technically a game ... kinda ... maybe worth $1.99? It's good for about 15 minutes of gameplay, tops. I wish there was a Don't Give a Crap vote option but since there isn't I'll be downvoting this one.

I guess this is technically a game ... but it's really, really bad.

Is it worth $1? Maybe. I mean, it did distract me for about 30 minutes.
