As a big fan of M&B Warband, I think Bannerlord is a worthy successor.
The mods to follow will keep this game relevant for a decade.

Development Review - Very solid game as of writing in early access. There's an attainable roadmap that is being successfully achieved. Very responsive and sociable developer who is simply trying to create the best product he can, solo. According to the roadmap, development should be finished by the end of 2022.

Game Review - This is a realistic sailing game, making it a nice little time sink. Journeys can take hours of real time on the open ocean, but there's plenty to do with fishing for supplies, navigation, and adjusting sails. Sleep can be used to timeskip, and alcohol drains your tiredness meter faster, allowing for more timeskips. It's kind of like a sailing Eurotruck simulator that you can even play in the background if you want.

Buyer beware. Amateur hour development.

Graphics are grainy and pixelated, that almost feel like getting sand stuck in your eye. They're actually legitimately physically nauseating and offensive to look at on most hardware. No joke, the graphics are so bad they'll injure you. Extraordinarily poorly optimised to the point that it's insulting.

The several day long quests (prospects) feel extremely rudimentary. The second quest requires you to place down radar beacons to survey a landscape, excellent, I can vibe with that, but what I don't want is the game spawning hostile creatures DIRECTLY onto the radar beacon like it's world of warcraft (?!)... many elements of the game feel extraordinarily dated, like the devs were timewarped to the year 2003 and are figuring out how to make 3D games for the first time.

The actual survival and serious building aspects could be ok, but I can't force myself to endure that part because it's so painful to gaze upon the basic inadequacies of the game... legit, I think the entire budget went to marketing?

Unfortunately players often don't have a good grasp of the mechanics, and that very negatively affects the gameplay for everyone. -- For example, squad leaders that don't know how to place rally points turn a 10 second respawn into a 10 minute respawn.

Game is going through a messy developmental recode.
Virtually all content has been removed and will be replaced.
