Sekiro: shadow's die twice

In the true words of one of my favorite youtubers Rigamarole: "It's 2019... I am forgotten..."
And it's a shame, because this game is truly one of my favorite games coming from the creators of dark souls.

I can call myself sort of a Souls veteran, given that I have roughly 300+ hours in dark souls 3 alone writing this review (I played the other souls games more on console). And I gotta say it is one of my favorite franchises. And what drives me most when playing these games is that you feel like going on an epic and challenging adventure full of suprises and companionship. And if you ask me, sekiro nailed that for me in the best way possible during my first run.

One of things I like about this game is the combat. Due to the addition of a second "health" bar which I call a "stamina bar", the combat feels fresh and challenging and something I had trouble to adapt to even after the fight with Genichiro. But I finally managed, and holy moly when I come back for another session it feels so good to have at your enemies with the possibility to do a fatal frickup. You know, like a real sword duel.

Secondly, one of the things I personally like, which is considered a negative thing by others, is the fact it's singleplayer only. I can agree this makes the game less entertaining in the long run, since with the addition of multiplayer would keep the experiences and encounters fresh. But on the other hand it also makes this less frustrating to have a session where you get absolutely fricked in the behind by invading players or worse: player(s) you yourself invade after waiting 10 minutes clearing your map of invasion. So I definitely don't mind that. And if you ask me the enemy AI (while still being kinda goofy I guess, but I blame the genre of the game) feels more adaptive and dangerous towards the player, simply due to the fact that the tracking of their attacks are more on-point than it was in previous souls-games.

Thirdly, the atmosphere is what you can kinda expect from a game of the souls series. Barren, poor, war-torn and gritty, while occasionally showing stunning scenery from places yet untouched by war, which still has that eerie feeling there is something fishy going on. It is beautiful in my opinion and makes the journey feel more epic.

All in all I like this game based on these three points, and I really recommend buying it if you want to have a journey where you need to adapt to overcome your challenges (without trying to cheat out by looking up how to cheese a certain obstacle), and feel accomplishment once completing such a game.

(disclaimer for my hours. Most of it was when I replayed this gem on the xbox)

-Little 12 year old me: "Oh boy that space man looks awesome! I should play this game!"
-14 year old me: "Finally I got this game, this is gonna be sweet..."
-14 year old me 10 minutes later: AAAAAAAAAAH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
-14 year old me 3 weeks later: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
-14 year old me the week after: Finished the main story... my god this was AWESOME
-16 year old me: LETS ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GO AGAIN
-16 year old me 10 minutes later: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

This is my very first horror game I ever played, and it was on the pc without the control repatches or anything. In short I like this game, and I love this franchise. And it's amazing how the graphics hold up till this day!

Is it worth the buy? On sale? Hell yes. While this might not be the game for everyone. This is a great game if you want to get to feel the paranoia and tenseness of being alone in an abandoned space ship. Though it is recommended to play the game with patching the controls. From what I heard the controls seem to be kinda slow on responses on the screen. But if you ask me that aint really a problem, since it adds to the hopelessness of the situation, and brings some realism (if you dont play this on hardcore.)

Seriously get this game if you are interested. Its a gem.
