Empire at War. The greatest Star Wars strategy game ever. Not once have I been tired of this game and I have always wanted more from it. With its campaign and normal modes, you will have fun for days. The different maps and gameplay mechanics make it just a blast to play. Empire at War is a rather old game though, but mods from the Steam Workshop breath new life into the game.

Being able to play as characters from the Clone Wars era, the First Order and the Old Republic Factions makes the game even more fun. For any Star Wars fan who also loves strategy games, this is 100% a game you should have in your library.

Uplink is the original hacking game made by Introversion Software, the creators of Prison Architect. The gameplay of Uplink is great and I never get tired of it. There is a point in the game, however, where you have completely maxed out everything and there is not a real goal anymore. The UI is very dated but can be fixed with a mod called Uplink OS. Uplink OS is a remastering of Uplink that brings you into the world of modern technology.

Because of Uplink OS, I would definitely recommend this game, but without it, it's ok.

Plague Inc: Evolved is a game where you can wipe out the world for a great price. The idea of creating a disease and spreading it around the would to kill all of humanity is just such an interesting concept that it makes a great game. The amount of detail that the developers have put into this game has made it extraordinarily fun. Each new disease has a new advantage or disadvantage that adds a new level of difficulty to the game and the scenarios add for endless hours of fun.

For $17 CAD, I think that Plague Inc is worth it and is a must have for anyone into strategy games.

Prison Architect is the prison building game that is loved by many. It's a really fun concept that has been executed okay by Introversion Software. Prison Architect is a mostly okay game, but it does have a few flaws and bugs that are quite annoying. With Paradox Interactive taking over, maybe the game will be improved even more.

Prison Architect is an easy to learn game because of the tutorial and is mostly self-explanatory through great descriptions when hovering over objects and rooms. It includes a rather new multiplayer mode that works ok and makes the game a lot of fun if you have someone to play with. Escape Mode is a feature that was added, but never really added on to. There is basic movement and punching of NPCs and escape attempts, but nothing else. Escape Mode can be vastly improved. There are MANY different ways you can choose to play the game. Map size, staff needs, warden bonus, fog of war, prison mutations, and even prisoner gender. These additions make the game fresh and exciting whenever you start a new prison.

With everything good in this game though, there is also bad. The AI for workmen, guards and prisoners is not great. They continue to get stuck on doors and not follow instructions even after patches claiming to have fixed these problems. There are some gameplay features that aren't explained, like CCTV, and some that make the game difficult to play, like the canceling of building objects.

With all of these flaws, Prison Architect becomes a tough choice to make when purchasing. Sure, running a prison is fun and all but with as many issues as there are, is it really worth the $34 CAD? Maybe Paradox Interactive will improve the game enough to make me change me view on this game. But for now, this is where I stand;

Prison Architect is a prison building game that, if you can get it on sale for a low enough price, is a fun game to have in your collection. There are some bugs and feature that can be improved upon, but nothing game breaking.

Whether you are an experienced player with strategy games, or someone entering the genre for the first time, Civilization 5 is a game that I would recommend. The turn-based strategy game themed with our history is days of fun. You start off your game in 4000 BC as the first settlers of the world. As you progress you settle more and more cities, research new and more advanced technologies and eventually win the game in one way or another. Civ 5 is considered to be the most casual-friendly out of any of the games in the franchise and is a great play to start in turn-based strategy games. Without both the Brave New World and Gods and Kings DLCs, the game is a bit dry. Both DLCs transform the gameplay and add many mechanics that make managing your own civilization a lot more enjoyable. The graphics are actually pretty good for a game released in 2010, and is an easy to learn game if you put in enough time.

Overall, I'd say that Civilization V is the crown jewel of the Civilization Franchise and is a must have for anyone who enjoys strategy games. You'll need an ok computer to run this though as the game gets pretty dependent on the CPU depending on your map size and how late into the game you are.

Software Inc. is quite an intense and complicated game. There is somewhat of a learning curve (I still can't figure out marketing), but once you pass that its a great experience!
