If you are a fan of escape rooms, this is the game for you. Instead of paying $70 per person for a 1.5 hour escape room experience, instead enjoy a $20 per person 5 hour experience. Incredible.

Excuse the low hours, I've mostly played this game on PS4 and with others at their houses or conventions, but had to buy it on PC to support the devs.

I've been following HyperJam since I found it at PAX 2017. It's finally out and you can see there is a strong overarching vision. An arena brawler that is amazing with friends, heavily inspired by fighting games, but made accessible and inclusive for everyone. A game that makes you laugh and cry and everything in between at all the exciting interactions made available by game mechanics.

Pros:
1. Presentation; music, sfx and visuals are on point
2. Controls are tight and responsive
3. Non-stop well-paced action.
4. Heavily skill based including a low skill floor and high skill ceiling
5. Perk system/catchup mechanic is fun and keeps things exciting

Cons:
1. As a fan of complex fighting games, the choice to have a "throw weapon" mechanic and not an additional "alternate fire" mechanic feels like a missed opportunity for even more depth
2. Only 6 maps, which sucks because I've been playing it every convention I've had a chance to since 2017
3. Lack of modes, especially lack of a competitive mode
4. The perk system/catchup mechanic is unbalanced for competitive play, it is in your interest to throw the first round to take advantage of it. Disclaimer: I'm a tryhard, so if you're looking for a mechanic that allows new or bad players to come into the game, the perk system is great

Overall great. If you love the feeling of games like Towerfall, Duck Game, Speedrunners and all those other awesome revisitations to local co-op, this is a necessary addition to your collection for your local co-op nights.

Took a long time, but SFV is finally a complete game and absolutely worth the $40 price tag. I am writing this review for fighting game amateurs - not seasoned veterans. Veterans should consider getting Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator.

Although simplistic, SFV offers an amazing introduction into the complex genre that is fighting games. It's very easy for most people to play new MMOs and new shooters as there are a lot of fundamental skills, such as camera control, keyboard awareness and WASD movement that most gamer take for granted. Fighting games hit you with an entirely new set of skills you likely haven't developed for years.

The game doesn't teach you well, but it reduces the amount of possible options at any given point so that when you finally decide you want to get the theory, it's much more accessible.

Street Fighter 4 ignited my passion for the genre, and Street Fighter V helped bring all that theory together. I play Guilty Gear mostly now, but still like to revisit SFV as its aesthetic and characters are unforgettable.

Pros:
Stunning
Good writing
Characters feel alive

Injustice 2 is visually stunning, has good writing, and a lot of love and polish when it comes to developed characters. This makes the game super fun to play through and mess around casually if you aren't into fighters.

Cons:
Animations
Sluggish
Projectile mechanics

The game just /feels/ bad. Your inputs feel very sluggish, and this could be the piss poor animations and it could be the input lag for the port. The moves look, feel and sound weak for the most part.

I love the fireball game in traditional 2D fighters, but "zoning" in this game is different and ♥♥♥♥♥♥ for multiple reasons:

In Street Fighter, if you read a correct fireball, you jump in, and then you're in. Often the threat of the jump is enough to think twice about throwing a fireball. In Injustice, because the screen size is so large, you often have to jump or duck over 3-4 instances of "projectiles" in order to get close enough to make the projectile a risky option for the "zoner". Also, if you fail to duck or jump one projectile, you're hit with a large amount of pushback. Projectiles also don't interact with each other or cancel each other out, meaning matches with two zoners often end up with them hitting each other full screen.

The combination of a huge screen size, knockback on projectiles, strong backdashes and no projectile clashing means that fullscreen projectile "spam" is a winning strategy. It's a shame, because once you finally fight your way into a closer range, the footsies and spacing elements are actually quite fun if you ignore the crappy animations. It's just that getting hit once and then the zoner backdashing away to expand the screen means you have to fight to get to the point where the zoner has to actually commit to an option or make a read (as opposed to just doing what's optimal).

I recommend Guilty Gear, but I understand a lot of people have reservations towards anime games (Under Night or UNIEL for short is a good gateway to anime games if you're wanting a bridge between traditional fighters and anime). Maybe just hold out for DBFZ or SFV:AE?

game was fun, then somebody played wizard and just used fireball for an entire round... they did 80% of total dps. Doing anything else seemed pointless after that

Did you guys enjoy WarioWare? 4 Second Frenzy? That kind of arcade feeling random minigames?
Do you enjoy battle areans like Towerfall? Smash Brothers?
Do you like competitiveness? Do you like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around while others are being competitive?

If you said yes to any of these. This is 100% the game for you.

It is a battle arena with wacky, inventive and creative stages. There is a huge comedy factor. It is fun, is it silly and it is unpredictable.
