I have had this game for quite a while now. It was meh but fun enough at first. I mostly play FPS games like Hell Let Loose and Arma, and this game is getting close to being on par with them in terms of my level of fun. I have never played the multiplayer of Easy Red 2, but I'm not here for that. The devs, unlike those for so many games released these days, are super active and constantly bringing new content and upgrades to the game. It is far from being abandoned. Things have really been shaping up and getting progressively better. I wouldn't be surprised if this game gets to AAA quality in the future, and I really hope it does. It is one of the most expansive WWII FPS games I know of and is quite fun to play.

Some things I love about this game:
-Wide variety of weapons, vehicles, maps, factions, assets
-Semi-destructible terrain and assets
-Huge number of missions
-Difficult and slightly retarded (in a fun way) AI
-Ability to drive tanks, fly planes, man crew-served weapons
-Getting dive-bombed by the AI
-Weapon caches are on the map to pick up AT weapons, get ammo, etc.
-When you die, you can take the place of an AI in your squad, so there is no need to run from spawn unless the whole squad is wiped
-As squad leader, you can direct the AI to make flanks or approach a certain way and also call in indirect fire.
-Being able to call in artillery, smoke screens, naval gunfire, etc.
-Constant and almost excessive action
-Being able to loot dead bodies
-1st or 3rd person view
-Piles upon Piles of dead bodies
-Enemies will surrender, and you can still kill them
-Penetration details to show if you hit the engine, killed a crew member, hit the tracks, etc
-Ability to scale difficulty and select either faction per mission
-One of the few games I've seen where medics will heal enemies. Revives just become prisoners.
-Weapons are lethal and kill in one or two shots

Some things I don't like:
-Graphics are somewhat lacking, but by no means bad (and constantly improving)
-Game can get a bit glitchy at times. I have never had a crash, just some lagging (3060Ti, i7-10700k, 32GB RAM)
-Missions can get a bit monotonous as they are purely grinding battles with a ♥♥♥♥ load of kills on both sides
-No way (that I have found) to rearm tanks. If you run out of ammo, you just have to run people over or suicide somehow
-Most campaigns are locked behind a paywall, but at the same time, it is only $6, and you get plenty of play time for each. I only don't like it because it isn't free and I'm cheap, but I am happy to support the devs at the same time.
-some minor inconveniences with the UI and mission selection, nothing game breaking

Overall, I would buy this game again even if it were not on sale. I will be buying the remaining two DLC I sill need to get. It is fun and very intense, but can get a bit monotonous. Everything that I feel is lacking is getting worked on and has improved significantly since I first bought the game. I recommend you try it!

This is a fantastic game. It is only in alpha, and a little rough around the edges, but there is so much to it already. You must play as a team to win! You spawn in and have to (should) reload and fix bayonets, then join the main battle line, which is up to 75 friendlies. From there, you move around the field attacking, fixing, and repelling the enemy while you fight over a central objective.

Shooting is difficult, to say the least. You must load a musket, which means you must set your rifle on the ground, bite the end off a paper cartridge, place it on the muzzle and allow the powder to fall in while you push the bullet into the muzzle, then pull out the ram rod, place it in the barrel, punch it down a few time, then place the ram rod back in the slot for it on the rifle, then place a new primer at the breach, then pull the hammer back, then aim and let your sight steady, then fire and be enclosed in a wide spread of smoke and not know if your shot hit.... If reading that was boring to you, then shooting will be boring to you in this game, at first.

Melee mode is a little rough, but very intense. You can attack with your bayonet, or turn your rifle around and use it as a club. Clubbing causes less damage but it seems like you get more strikes per minute. Bayonets kill in two stabs, but take longer than clubbing. So at minimum, you can take two strikes before death (second strike kills). After you have been stabbed once, your vision turns gray and you start to blur and lose sound awareness. Then it is very difficult to distinguish friend from foe. You run through a haze stabbing at anyone who looks like the enemy. Sometimes they have identical uniform style (different colors), so when you are suppressed, they look just like friendlies. Sometimes they have unique style and you can clearly tell, but either way, it is a frenzy of stabbing and personalized yelling. You can hear enemies in local voice chat, so you never know who is coordinating a bayonet charge on the floor below you in a recently captured farm house, or what kind of historically accurate slander you will hear. There are no friendly markers on your HUD, so you must have positive identification before engaging an enemy. Melee engagements are very common and are simultaneously the bane of existence and the height of gaming adrenaline. Stabbing can be a bit cumbersome. You cannot stab all that fast and it is actually pretty easy to miss. You must stab true to the enemy and maneuver to avoid their stabs.

Melee engagements make shooting feel so much better. The terror of charging makes the slow reload feel so much shorter. The slow reloads make you ration your shots. Often, it is better to save your shot until you are close to the enemy lines. Shoot, then continue your charge. The balancing of melee and shooting is a very real and continuous concern in this game.

You can spawn at "main" or at the flag. There are flag bearers in this game. They cannot shoot or melee, but they are vital for providing a respawn point where the main formation is. The maps are not huge, but they definitely take time to get across. Sometimes, spawning at the flag is more economical, sometimes not. If you spawn at main, you will be in game within about 20 seconds. If you spawn at the flag, only one can spawn at a time. You have to wait in line to spawn at the flag. Sometimes this is okay, like when you are killed by a stray bullet. Sometimes, like when most of your unit died in a charge, it can take several minutes to spawn and it is more economical to spawn at main. You must have battlefield awareness to know which to choose.

Artillery is relatively new and not fully polished. It takes a long time for the artillery crews to get into position. For the cannon, you have to have one player on each wheel and a third on the limber to steer. Rolling the cannon is slow going, to say the least. In addition to the cannon, you have to bring up ammo with it. That means 3 more players wheeling up an ammo cart. There are different sized cannons, so you must keep the right ammo cart with the right cannon. To load, you have to sponge the barrel, load the shell, plunge the shell, ready the cannon, and fire it after manually adjusting the sights to your target. The recoil is significant and rolls the cannon back about 15 feet, so you have to reset the cannon after firing. It is a very cumbersome and slow process, but the effects on the enemy are devastating. I have seen 10+ soldiers turned to pink mist and bloody chunks in a single cannon shell impact. They are slow but play a huge role in dictating battlefield positioning of the infantry.

You can pick artillery class or infantry class. Cavalry is in the works (remember this game is in alpha). For infantry, you can pick private, various NCO ranks, and the officer. Privates are the backbone of the unit, providing the most rifles and combat power. NCO's, as far as I can tell, only help by providing HUD icons for where your unit is when you are lost in the woods. In well organized and cohesive units, the NCO's act like their real life counterparts and take command when the officer is killed. Officers lead at most times, and provide ground markers to coordinate troop movements. They are very important when you have 75 players all working within voice range of each other. Strong leadership is required to keep the internet trolls at bay, but trolls are not too bad so far.

Winning the game is based around a combination of central point control and "tickets". There is not a ticket counter, but the effects of being killed can be profound on your team. Each team starts at a "battle ready" state and is slowly whittled down by their losses. Morale is the measurement used. If you die "in formation", you lose the least amount of morale for your team. If you die "skirmishing", which means you are kneeling or too far from your unit, then you lose more morale. If you die way too far from your unit, then you lose a ton of morale (5x as much being killed in formation). It pays to stay together and it pays to stay standing. The game is very well favored for teams who fight by historical tactics. The immersion is insane.

Tactics are crucial and very malleable. Per team, there are two "regiments" comprised of around 25-35 soldiers, plus any artillery units. These regiments work together to control the battlefield. When two regiments charge two regiments, it is the most chaotic and brutal experience. Each regiment has one flag to spawn on, but can break up to smaller units and still have soldiers be "in formation". This means you can rush an enemy flag in a corn field only to find out it is a feint and be enveloped by the enemy. As said before, you lose more morale by being killed kneeling, but the officer has to consider if it is worth it. Should the troops kneel in the first row to have more view for the second row? Do they offset and shoot over each others shoulders? Do they spread out lengthwise two feet apart? 3 feet? How far in corn fields vs wheat fields, vs forest, vs wooden fence? The small unit tactics potential for this game is huge. Any clan who can best coordinate 75 players will crush all they oppose.

For an alpha, the maps look really good and feel bigger than they are. There is more to come in development and the game will continue to improve. Servers are a many, but populated servers are few. Usually, there are only 1-3 mostly full servers, but I have rarely had trouble getting into a mostly full server.

There are various bugs and crashes, which are very annoying. You have to remember that this game is in alpha. If you expect a fully polished game, you will not be happy with this one. If you have some patience and can appreciate historical accuracy, you will probably like this game. The immersion keeps me going in this game. It can be intense and it can be frustrating, but I like it all.

This is a great game for realistic WW2 FPS combat. The developers listen to feedback from the community and continually release new features and improvements to past releases. This is not a game for the Rambo type. Teamwork is required and greatly improves the experience.
