The gameplay is fun, fast, and strategic. It's like a hardcore Plants vs Zombies RPG. It's addicting.

From a gameplay/design standpoint, the Souls series is one of the most important of our time. You owe it to yourself to do a blind playthrough -- you'll get to see just how much modern games are lacking these days.

You will struggle and die repeatedly, but the game is ~FAIR~. Move slowly, take everything in, and constantly reevaluate your strategy. If you can't get past an area, you're simply not paying enough attention. Each death is your fault, so the sense of achievement you get after finally clearing an area is unmatched.

I bought the PS3 version on launch day, and now I also own the PC version. The PC release is the definitive version of Dark Souls 2. It looks great, runs smoothly, and plays perfectly. A controller is highly recommended. For even better graphics, google: "GeDoSaTo" -- it's from the same guy who made DSFix for the original Dark Souls.
