It is rare thing these days after all these years to be so pleasantly surprised at a simple innovation in games. Balatro may sound like a poker game, but that's how it gets your guard down, next thing you blink, and you've wasted 8 hours of your life trying to figure out the best combinations of jokers for your deck.

Great card game. Great poker-esque game. Absolutely astounding refreshing combo of the two.

Good game. One of my favourite fighting games in recent memory, and my favourite of the franchise. However, if you're in an unlucky region like mine (South Africa)? Good luck finding matches with the matchmaking. You've got good internet? Who cares? You're a wired player. Ha! How naive. You think the region settings will help? Oh, sweet summer child... It's actually wild that I can log onto SFV and reliably find matches, but the new hotness? Nah, we're not hot enough for that. I can log onto Skullgirls right now and reliably find matches. Oh well.

Side note: I've probably installed and uninstalled the game at least 10 times throughout the year thinking, "now's the time it works." Only to end up with maybe one match found in at least hour long stretches of trying to find games. Wow, I think I'm ranting now.

I haven't had this much fun and stress tied together in a neat and unhinged package in a long while.

One of the more frantic spins on the formula behind the yellow, pill-popping, ghost-eating/fearing, critter. It'll bring you back to the Arcade days in the most fun and frantic fashion. Certainly a great addition to the PAC-MAN series.
