Wanted to love it, but it’s just too simple.

I really wanted to like The Political Process. There aren’t many complex political simulations out there, and I was excited for a game that lets you shape policies, manage budgets, and climb the political ladder. But after just a few hours, it’s clear that the game is way too predictable and lacks the depth needed to stay engaging.

Everything boils down to the same cycle—fundraise, target the right voters, pass safe policies, and repeat. There’s no real political debate, no shifting voter dynamics, and no real challenge beyond managing numbers. Not even any major events that could help you shape the public view on certain topics. Even the budget system, which could have been a core part of governance, is just adjusting sliders without meaningful consequences. You can try to push for major changes, but they almost always fail outright, making it feel like you have no actual impact.

Maybe things get more interesting in the late game, especially at higher positions where lobbying, interest group conflicts, and more complex political battles could come into play. But based on other reviews and what I’ve seen, it just seems like more of the same repetitive cycle. And honestly, who wants to sit through dozens of hours of that just to find out? The game doesn’t reflect the messy, unpredictable nature of politics—it’s just a numbers game with little room for genuine political struggle or debate.

Another issue is that the American two-party system feels way too binary and restrictive. There’s no real ideological variety or room for alternative political movements. Every election is a battle between two rigidly defined sides, with no meaningful third-party dynamics or complex ideological shifts. This makes the game feel even more repetitive since the same strategies always work, and there’s little incentive to experiment.

I respect what the game is trying to do, and I was really hoping for a deep, strategic political simulation. But instead, it feels like a routine management sim rather than an actual test of political decision-making. If you’re looking for something with real complexity, tough negotiations, and actual consequences for your choices, this might not be it.

This game really lacks depth.
Most games of this type of genre try to have simple, yet in-depth systems once you dive in deeper. That is exactly what was attempted with Airport CEO too, but failed horribly.

First of all your airport always feels tiny and all the options are really limited. I found myself needing to plan out how to build my entire airport even before I placed the first runway and had actually to restart because of it.
When trying to design your airport you have really limited options, the shops you can add, the furniture you use, the structure and transportation so it doesn´t get confusing - everything feels so similar because it really is - you have not many options and it makes the game boring extremely fast.

All in all this game doesn´t feel like fun after a couple of hours. Even building the infrastructure for vehicles and baggage feels like a task and is not fun since it is not well explained and can create a lot of confusion. What is supposed to be a simple yet complex and intriguing game is indeed simple, but also boring, plain, not creative, and disappointing when compared to other sandbox simulations. This shows this game is more of an airplane show for the enthusiast who knows every single airplane name than for the gameplay because that is the only reason I can imagine someone playing this over another game of this sort.
Oh and also there was no new content added for the past 1-2 years at least, only new plane types... So yeah, I guess they are working on a new game instead of completing this one first.

My rating:
4/10
If this was still in development or below 10 bucks(24,50€ holy moly), it would maybe be worth picking up, but as it stands: definitely not worth
