A lot of mixed stuff but this game was very addictive overall. I binged it over the course of a few days. B+ or A- tier.

The exploration is fun, it is, in fact, the main reason why I binged the game. I saw a few reviews saying that exploration wasn't rewarded enough, and I think it may almost fall into that, but there is something so fun about it despite the infrequent rewards for it. Also, the game doesn't have much, mechanically, to reward you with besides a weapon, a spell, or a consumable, so it's not completely at fault per se. Maybe in a sequel exploration could be expanded but even with only these three things finding weapons and spells were fun. There is a spell you get early on in the game that summons a casket. I thought it was kinda useless and didn't understand why it was in the game. Much later I found myself facing some obstacles (if you know, you know) and that spell became an incredible utility spell.

The different areas are also pretty fun to explore and how one has to access them almost reminds me of a Metroidvania? Perhaps that is just my own experience, but, after a certain point, the game becomes non-linear for the most part and I found myself hopping between areas all the time. At first I thought some areas were, internally, too same-y and easy to get lost in, but I suspect the areas this happened most to me in were designed to be that way.

My biggest criticism is the combat as it almost feels like it was designed to be a down time experience. Yet it is a dungeon crawler, so it ought to be a main part of the game. Not that it was completely bad or something. It was fun and it was sometimes difficult, it just didn't feel like a problem to solve, and didn't feel as mechanically interesting as something like this ought to be, and would fall into being almost boring too often.

But again, despite a lot of its rougher edges this game was so much fun and I would like to do 1 or 2 more playthroughs with various restrictions. It's good. Pick it up. Especially if you like games with a lot of exploration.
