I optimized my factories so thoroughly in this game, I had to do it to my room in real life

In its genre, this game has far and away the most refined gameplay elements. One of its highest acclaims is the fact that there are many ways to edit the RNG, giving you a chance to tailor a run to your preferences with what you have. Many other games in the genre fail at this, relying too heavily on good RNG.

The enemies are well balanced, and fighting them is both fair and predictable. It feels like there is room for player improvement on a failed run, wherein you say "I should have done X," as opposed to "that was ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥." Loss feels like you can improve next time, as opposed to there being nothing you can do about it.

Midwit devs. They apparently got lucky and found a formula that worked, but they apparently have absolutely no clue how to balance a game for ♥♥♥♥. Or manage a community, apparently.

There are a lot of decisions here that seem completely braindead, which (to me) means that nothing made it past the "dude wouldn't it be so cool if we added X" phase without considering its impact on gameplay, or lack thereof. It's a running theme with these dudes.

This game to begin with had a few issues, but now, due to incompetence, those issues have been amplified. Multiply that with infinite middle fingers to the community, it just makes this game not worth playing, and I have half a mind to avoid any future Arrowhead titles.

I have barely even thought about this game since it first released, and I got to play MAYBE 2 or 3 times with my friends.

Let me repeat myself, this time with context:
I was INCREDIBLY excited for this game's launch. I was excited to see what they could do in Unreal Engine, I was excited to see what new kinds of gameplay mechanics they would introduce, how they would expand on the lore, the sky was the limit.

Since its release, I have literally not even THOUGHT about the game AT ALL since recently glancing at it in my library.

I know the devs care. That's mostly why i'm so pissed at them for being so incompetent. Management, PR, all of them have a hand in this disappointment.

This has been a very cruel lesson to me that I will NEVER pre-order a game again, and I HEAVILY encourage everyone reading this to do the same. The reason the industry is in such a state is because we continue to give these companies money for a LOOSE PROMISE that we will be given a complete or worthwhile product. The "trust me bro" of purchasing.
