Dear Heroes and Generals,

After giving you hundreds of dollars and playing you for more than 87 days of my life, it's beyond time to put you in the ground and leave you there.

I went so far as to uninstall you for months at a time, only to relapse and have my M1/M2 in hand, ready to Spray & Pray just one more time. Another relapse found me manning the gun of a Tiger II that I paid cash for back in the day, only to find it can be easily wrecked by so much as a drop of bird ♥♥♥♥.

The only reason I am writing this now is that I happened to see the words "Battle Pass" associated with your name and I couldn't help but stop by and see what this newest ripoff strategy is. I went no further than the content list which would total over $1700 for all the mess you're trying to sell!

I really wish you had lived up to your potential. The H&G I got into back in '14 had so much promise! Bugs? Definitely. Hackers? Definitely. Fun? Usually! In the 8 years since it's been more about your combination of greed and incompetence, as well as the complete lack of interest in anything your player base has to say.

It may sound a little strange when I say that there is a space left in my mind that H&G used to occupy - and it hasn't been easy finding another game that fits quite the same. I could use your approach, though, and just have AI fill the void since there won't be enough other games in the queue otherwise...

Goodbye, Heroes & Generals. It's been good and it's been great, but if I ever see you again it's too soon.


P.S. If nothing else, PLEASE fix your fps and ping disasters!

If you told me when I started playing dota 2 at 18 years old that I would be reviewing this game after 8 years and 13'000 hours, I would have laughed at you.
Let me put that into perspective: 541 Days and 16 Hours. Of dota 2.

I'm almost 26 now, and I don't really know what to think of this game. This game has had a large impact on my life. I was "addicted" to the experience, in ranked and matchmaking. I've learned a lot about myself and others. I've learned a lot about staying in charge of my emotions. I've also learned that emotions can easily lose you a game before its come to its conclusion. I've learned how to react instinctively to changing pixel colours.

But I've also relatively learned nothing.

Not to depress anyone reading this, but when I put all of this into perspective, thinking about what could have been, I could easily imagine how much better my life would be if I never started playing this game. Socially, I would have a stronger network. My education and eventual career would probably have had more longevity (I have played professionally as a dota 2 player, but grew a lack of interest in competing). But I can never be sure how drastic these differences are. Would the pros outweigh the cons? I have certainly met and interacted with a large group of people, because of dota2, at events, tournaments etc. Any dota 2 player that has sunk 2000 hours or so has probably had these thoughts: "what if I just did ... instead" or "what if I just played on a more casual level". The issue is, that dota feels more rewarding than other things, and that's a trap I fell into.

It is with a heavy heart that I admit that I don't think I can bring myself to play anymore. Took a long 8 years for me to grow out of this perfect fit, which is why I must review dota2 positively.

...an extremely racist and homophobic vocabulary
...free Russian lessons
...anger management issues
...borderline autistic tendencies
...sleep deprivation

10/10 would never uninstall this game and correct my life

P.S. PLEASE for the love of all that is holy, practice in Deathmatch and Casual as well as perfect your cross-hair and mouse sensitivity before you jump into competitive. People will thank you for it.
