Subnautica is a great experience for one playthrough and I do recommend it. Highly atmospheric, fun, decent story and often scary. It does suffer from becoming too easy which I'll get into below so beware, there are spoilers for core game mechanics which might ruin some of the fun for you. This game is at it's best when you know nothing about it, go play it.

My main gripe with the game is difficulty and how creatures don't have any sort of surprising animal like behavior. They just swim in circles (and constantly make noises) around the area where they're set to spawn and when you learn where reapers and other dangers live and how they attack, kiting them becomes way too easy or you can just go around their tiny habitat. The sea becomes far less scary when you know where the dangerous things are and where you're always safe.

To give an example let's take one of the biggest sea monsters in the game, the reaper leviathan. It only spawns in certain locations on the map, are always there and never move to places where you least expect them. If you enter their vision cone/radius they will eerily swim closer, make a loud roar and attack (you always hear and usually see them before they see you). What you do is switch to your handheld water jet called seaglide, swim to the side and start stabbing away at it or swim away. After a few seconds it is done with its attack and swims further away. If you stick around, it will attack again. If enemies were more unpredictable and better at killing you, the game would never stop being scary as hell. This flaw makes it so you're far safer outside any submarines than inside them which is a little backwards to me.

Fantastic game, but the devs sold out to Epic so this is my obligatory protest negative review.
