Hate the new UI. There's been some launch options to fix it, but I think they've all been patched by this point. For now, if you want an older steam look, I recommend this Steam 2013 skin [gamebanana.com] which I find pretty neat, and just for convenience, here's the standard emotes that Steam Chat used to offer:

UPDATE: Steam has started moving away from vgui skins, so if you want a Steam 2013 look [gamebanana.com], you're gonna need SFP. I'd still recommend trying -vgui in case it still has some level of functionality that hasn't been deprecated yet, but if you haven't set a skin and you want to set skins at this point, then sorry to say, but you're gonna have to do some registry edits as mentioned on the Valve Developer Community wiki . There are a few VGUI windows and such which haven't yet been converted to CEF that still do seem to use skins. though this will probably change soon enough.

Some useful Steam launch options are -console and -dev, as they open up a number of useful functions.

Advice:
Don't be trusting towards everything, and watch out for signs of a scam. If you find a scammer, I'd suggest noting the "/profiles/((numbers))" URL of the scammer. If the scammer has a "/id/((custom))" URL, you can use an ID Finder to get the correct URL. You want this URL because the /id/ one can be changed. After this, I'd suggest playing along with them to keep them busy, while keeping a chat log to gather info. When you are urged into any exchange, that is when you bail out, call the scammer out, hold your ground and then, once they flee, you report the scammer and any other account they may have urged you to trade with, including the chat log in your report, and, of course, a bit of description, then you can warn others about this scammer, using the "/profiles" URL you took note of.
If an obvious scammer bot shows up in your comments, I suggest blocking them, reporting them, removing their comments and clowning on 'em.

The Earthbound Series. Specifically Earthbound & Mother 3. Favourite Character? Porky - He's enjoyably hateable.

Animal Crossing. New Leaf especially, as you get more control.
Favourite character? Tom Nook - While he's always upgrading your house without permission, he also doesn't charge interest or expect the money by a certain time. He's also got depth to him.

Smash. Simply put: Sakurai knows how to make a good fighting game. I personally enjoy Brawl the most (Not tripping, mind you, but it's got a great story and is easily the most moddable Smash game)
Brawl announcer is best - 4&Ult one is cool too.
Brawl main is Meta, Ult main is Pika.

Favourite character? Meta Knight. If Dedede ever gets his anime voice in the games, though, then he might overtake Meta Knight as my favourite.

DO THE MARIO! Swing your arms from side to side---
Yep. I enjoy Mario games. They're simple, but fun. Exceptions are there, but as a whole, Mario is pretty good.
Favourites? Sure.
Party&Kart go to Waluigi for expressiveness. Wario is amazing in his own set of game series. In the main games, Rosalina is best due to others being horribly underdeveloped. Fawful is easily my favourite from M&L games because he brings many chortles. In paper, Dimentio takes the stage and the green thunder strikes! Bowser is amazing in any RPG game. Best in Yoshi games are Kamek. Cranky Kong is best in DK Games. Luigi is best in Luigi's Mansion.
As for overall best? Hard to choose between Waluigi, Wario, Fawful, Dimentio, Bowser and Mr. L.

Sonic! Yep, this has a presence on Steam, too, but I still enjoy it outside of Steam. My favourites would be the Adventure series, Sonic 2, 3 & Knuckles, and of course, Sonic Mania
Favourite character? Robotnik.
I pretty much love all of Robotniks portrayals, whether it be as a goofy whack job or as a truly threatening villain, this character always manages to be good.
Runner-ups include Tails (Pre-Unleashed Character Butchering), Shadow (Humphrey & Griffith eras) & Knuckles (S3&K, SA Series)
As for the titular character? His characterisation was perfect in Black Knight, but SEGA decided to abandon that depth in Colours. so for now, he can reside in the No Hopers bin from DKC2 for all I care.
