Early Access Review
Incredibly intuitive and great fun. Tons to explore and experiment with alongside friends in co-op and a great sense of progression.

Gustave is a little overpowered in Act 3 but the rest is perfect

An incredible DLC to round off the story, it feels incredibly fresh while still keeping all the charm that the base game has.

The soundtrack is amazing, just as the base game. There are some real standout tracks in the DLC.

The graphics in this DLC, at least on Ultra, are a true showcase of PCVR, realtime lighting and incredible VFX alongside the game's beautiful art really come together perfectly in this.

The new gameplay features / items are incredibly polished, once again with great VFX.Using the Grappler and Parry combo against that last boss section is some of the most fun I've had in VR in a while, it's incredibly smooth and fun to use.

Then to top it all off, the final boss fight is incredible, it's nice to have a proper challenge in a VR game, often VR games are too easy but this was properly difficult, I couldn't count the amount of times I died but I kept going back to try again!

Unfortunately plays like an on-rails walking sim with some enemies that pop up here and there. Wanna like it, just cant stand how painfully slow and linear it is. You get maybe 10 seconds of sprint before being out of breath and then you're back to the slow wander.

The atmosphere is good enough, graphics impressive albeit on a 4090 so not sure how it compares on lower spec. The gun mechanics are good enough for a modern VR game, nothing new here but good enough. Hands are a little lacklustre with that Unreal Engine 'Physics' feel but the interactions are solid and hands don't feel like they get stuck. No full body in 2024 is a bit of an upset in my opinion, in a game that seems very character focused only seeing my character in one off cutscenes puts me off. The opening is solid and drew me in but as soon as they gave me agency the walking bored me.

If you can put the negatives aside this could very well be a game you enjoy, just not for me unfortunately especially with some of the other titles released / releasing this end of the year.

I really enjoyed this game, even as a massive fan of the first game and sacrificing the bay, however I really don't want another game from Deck Nine or a continuation of the story they've now set up. The first 3/4 chapters are some of the most fun I've had with a Life is Strange game since the first one but by Chapter 5 I was bored, uninterested and just downright confused.

The writing is inconsistent, the first 3 Chapters feel really strong in setting up and creating the characters but chapter 4 & 5 seem to write away most character traits and small character moments in an attempt to make everyone seem more likeable, unfortunately it fails it even doing that as it just makes them all feel half-baked. This is sometimes made up for by the acting, these characters are incredibly well performed despite their inconsistencies.

Technically this game is really impressive, albeit i'm playing on a 4090 so that may be completely different for others. The graphics in some moments look incredible, again this is inconsistent in Chapter 4/5 as characters start looking odd in some places but not enough for it to be a noted flaw. The mocap & facial animations are some of the best i've ever seen, not even just in this series. Despite all this, outside of cutscenes & conversations the characters feel like NPCs, often just standing somewhere in a pre-made animation with no interaction or acknowledgement of Max which can feel really unnatural at points.

The soundtrack may be the strongest part of this game and possibly my favourite from the series. The first 3 chapters are yet again the strongest besides the song used at the very end of the game but there are songs in Chapter 4 & 5 that are really good too.

My main takeaway from this game is it feels like it was made to draw in fans and make boatloads of $$$, not be a new LIS game which leaves me feeling conflicted as I did genuinely enjoy a majority of my time with it. Overall I really enjoyed this game but it falls flat on it's face at the end and only promises more disappointment in the future if they continue down this path. I cautiously recommend it but don't expect a masterpiece.

Reviewing now 1.0 is out, this has jumped leagues ahead with this update! This tops some of the best VR games not only graphically but gameplay and replayability. The maps have incredible scale and are genuinely beautiful, the way light shines in from cracks of the caves or the depths of ancient ruins leaves you in awe each time you enter a new Outpost.

The combat feels smooth and physical, really gives you a workout if you're putting in the effort too! The swords slice and stab as you'd expect in a physics based game and blunt weapons react as you'd want them to.

Enemies have been massively improved since Early Access, I found myself having to block, dodge and attack all at the same time while also using my magic and the enemies all did the same. One scenario I found myself defeating a camp in a cave, 3 enemies in front of me. I knock down 2 and the last one uses gravity magic to almost throw me off the edge of the map but I use the momentum to stab them. Scenarios like this are many in this game and each run feels new and exciting.

The skill tree is still new to me but from what I've used so far this is the best VR implementation of a skill tree only helped by the already existing sandbox that the game has been built upon.

Incredible update WarpFrog, loving this update cant wait to dig MANY more hours into this game!
