Heads will Roll: Reforged is for me easily the biggest surprise of 2023. A spiritual successor to one of my favorite games of all time "A Legionary's Life", and a game that in many ways, surpasses it, and that's when it isn't just completely blowing out of the water. HWR uses an expanded system for character creation that is similar to it's inspiration. You create your character using a set amount of points for stats, your starting inventory and money, and start off your journey as a lowly English soldier in camp, ready to be part of an invasion of France. While in camp you can train, socialize, shop, use the extensive crafting system, complete mini-quests and maybe even commit crimes depending on what kind of character you're roleplaying. Then when your limited amount of turns at camp is over, you're off to the next battle.

Where you will almost certainly die.

Heads Will Roll uses an exciting and absolutely addicting system of points that you earn for every kill in the game, so that when your character dies and you create a new one, you will have more points to spend at the character creation screen the next time. One of the major faults I had with A Legionary's Life is that I rarely felt like I was getting much more for my character after each death in the beginning of the game, to the point where I hardly even noticed the progression for many of the first hours of playing it. This is not a problem here as you are bombarded with points and each life you live from the beginning until deep into the end game, you will feel yourself getting new advantages to surviving your quest to move up in the world from being a lowly soldier, to a famous mercenary, or perhaps even nobility. With each stage being fun as you move up from in the begining just trying desperately to survive, to when you actually begin to thrive.

The combat system is a turned based RPG style combat system ripped straight from A Legionary's Life with a lot of fun improvements. While your legionaire only had his short sword and Javelin. This game expands it with poisoned weaponry, a variety of throwing weapons, trinkets (3 slots for equipment that has an impressive variety of effects to suit whatever playstyle you're using), Crossbows and basically any medievil weaponry you can think of. The possibilities feel endless. Combining this with lots of Armor with it's own weaknesses, advantages and the ability to craft your own armor. We're talking serious depth here and a good challenge. I might make it sound complex, but it isn't. You're given a lot of options but you're never going to feel inundated by them.

So you're probably thinking that sounds great and all, but repeating the same game over and over again sounds repetitive, and A Legionary's Life covered for this by being perfectly written and really making you feel like you were a part of the Punic Wars. Head's Will Roll, where I will criticize it in one way. HWR has much weaker writing than A Legionary's Life. You won't feel like the characters are real medievil characters and often feel more like modern caricatures. But what it makes up for with a slight drop in quality, it makes up for with its branching storylines, that diverge MASSIVELY and the game's story being MUCH, MUCH longer with multiple endings.

Now, elephant in the room. Yeah, there's a free nudity DLC. This isn't a sex game though and if you buy it hoping for anything more than one barely R rated NSFW picture of the lady you were wooing when you get her relationship bar to 100 percent you're going to be disappointed. This is a real game, the DLC is just some pretty nice but very limited art of the games female characters.

In closing, I just finished a playthrough where my brave solder Punchy died after 7 hours of gameplay with him, where I got farther down the nobility storyline than I ever had before having killed 143 enemies only to get chopped down by some Scottish Knights unexpectedly. All I wanted to do after was go back and avenge "Punchy" and come back to Lina since I promised her I wouldn't die. I immediately started a new character and only paused my next playthrough of the game after an hour because I just wanted to write this. This game is a freaking winner and I love it. Bravo to the devs for making the exact game I wanted to play and continuing to update it.

Holy moly, what can I say? New Star is always my favorite mobile game developer and usually a must install on any of my phones. However, I never particularly liked New Star Manager for the phone as it's quite a bit more dependent on microtransactions over their other games.

Well, this is that game without the microtransactions and it's absolutely addictive and I regret waiting so many years with this on my wishlist to finally buy it.

Saw this on a Not The Expert video on youtube of worst reviewed Football games. As a fan of the endless runner and with this being only a dollar, I was intrigued.

This game has a lot to offer for its price and I can't help feeling like this is the start of something that would be a quite popular mobile game.

I'm not saying it's great or even good. But for the price point, it's a competent runner that shows some future promise and not the asset flip you might expect. I had fun.

A clone of Hill Climb Racer for mobile that lacks all the charm, polish or anything good. This wouldn't be acceptable as a freeware game and there was clearly no care put into fixing the obvious issues with the physics that make it borderline unplayable. Don't buy.

I genuinely love this game and never get bored of it for some reason. Wish there were more like it.

I'd say it's the worst made game on Steam, but there are probably worse. Literally everything about this game is broken, I tried to drive a car away in the opening mission and it kept doing front and backflips whenever I tried to accelerate, and corkscrews from the force of my squadmates entering the car. Absolutely zero redeeming qualities in a game idea that at least showed promise

Early Access Review
Supported Ukraine until I played this. So awful that I'm now a fascist. 0/5

In all seriousness there are much better ways to support Ukraine, please do those.

This game is weirdly good and extremely challenging. If it was released in 1995 it would be an absolute masterpiece. I only wish it also had old school doom 2 style multiplayer.

Don't play this. It takes advantage of humanities animal qualities and is extrememly addictive without being enjoyable in any way. You will waste a ton of your life on this. And life is finite, Spend it somewhere else.

It's brutal, it's depressing and it's fun for everyone involved.
