This is definitely my choice for the game of 2014. Instead of rehashing the typical action-based shooter style game that Gearbox spectacularly failed at when producing Aliens: Colonial Marines, Alien: Isolation primarily focuses on stealth mechanics to project its sense of suspenseful horror and it just simply excels at it. Not that stealth games are new and coming by any stretch of the imagination but it certainly is specifically for the Alien franchise and it's refreshingly different by AAA standards.

Speaking of AAA standards, the production value of this game is nothing less than stellar and the developers' attention to detail in building the 1979's vision for what the future looks is ubiquitous and just down-right awesome. The props in the environments are filled with CRTs, Commodore-64 looking keyboards and analog-tape driven tech (ie. cassette tapes). The horror element comes and goes particularly when frustration sets in due to the difficult nature of the game but it still sometimes finds itself now and then, which is okay with me since the horror element almost always goes away after the first few levels of any horror game.

If you're a fan of horror, stealth, the Alien franchise or all of the above (as I am), then you're probably going to really enjoy this game. As noted before, this game is very HARD and I'd advise Normal or Easy (or Novice =P) difficulty if you're not very good at stealth games. However, its difficulty and other problems are very minor issues to me and I'm very glad they did not compromise for the sake of mere broad appeal. Kudos to Creative Assembly who somehow managed to produce this awesome game despite a lengthy history of RTS games. It's the best game in the Alien franchise I've played since Aliens vs. Predator (1999) and I definitely highly recommend it.

And you should definitely only play this in the dark and with the audio turned up!
