one of the best expansions bungie released.

ABSOLUTELY UNCOMPLETEABLE. DO NOT WASTE A CENT ON THIS EXPANSION.

i don't care if its on sale it is not worth buying AT ALL. the entire campaign can be summed up in a 5 minute cutscene.

the missions in the campaign are acquire essence, cleanse essence by grinding the same activities over and over again, claim really ugly gear, enter pyramid, fight nighmares...

its extremely boring, repetitive and over in about 6 hours.

It boggles my mind that this expansion that should have just been a cutscene is somehow better reviewed than lightfall.

i would do anything to get the time and money i spent on this expansion back. dont make the same mistake i did, this is worthless.

i wouldn't even recommend playing this campaign if it was free its that worthless.

i really can't fathom why this expansion is so hated. this campaign is LEAGUES above shadowkeep and yet it has 29% reviews compared to the worst expansion since moving to steam at 33% and that's mind boggling to me.

i am convinced that the gripes with the campaign come down to a few small things.
1. Rohan and nimbus arent just unfunny and annoying, THE VOICE ACTORS FOR THEM SUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCK, it sounds like they were recorded over zoom by a couple dudes in their boxers who have ketchup and mustard stains on their shirts.
2. while my favorite enemy type is the vex, i swear to god every single expansion that involves vex is somehow always hated
3. people just came off the epic campaign of witch queen and expected something of that level.


i absolutely recommend it. if its on sale BUY IT. even if its not on sale it is definitely worth the $. I can firmly say putting up with the absolutely atrocious voice actors to get a proper leadup to final shape is worth it.
ignore the hate campaign that this expansion has suffered from since the start.

to be honest though, rohan and nimbus writing is better than osiris's writing and that should really say something. they turned osiris into an annoying ♥♥♥♥ who only insults you and gets frustrated that you cant handle strand until midway through the expansion. i don't remember Osiris being such an annoying prick.

Is it broken and buggy: Yes
Is it unoptimized: Yes (i9 9900k 2070 super before messing with settings like crazy 45 FPS, now 85-160 depending on the area)
Is it still playable: Yes
Is it getting constant updates to fix the game: YES (1-4 updates a day so far, every time we find a new game breaking bug it’s patched)

Now for the review: depending on the area you are in the game is really easy, you don’t need armor and can just have fun for hours till you get bored of the lack of challenge, the normal foresty area is not a challenge at all. Then you go to the desert, everything is trying to kill you from hyenas to elephants to sandstorms, winds will blow your houses down, fiber is scarce (main building material) and it’s a serious challenge that’s actually fun,
Then ya go into a place like the Arctic, in full fur armor and your dying of being too cold, there’s no water, you need a campfire and a water skin to boil ice to drink, and the only thing there is polar bears which are honestly impossible to tank, maybe if ya had iron armor and tools (which iron is insanely scarce) but iron armor would also make you cold, long story short ice is just death in the game. Some aspects of the game in my opinion are a bit to easy, some aspects are too resource intensive for the resources that you are able to collect. But when the game shines, IT REALLY SHINES, over 2 days I’ve sunk 17 hours into the game and I highly recommend it.

Tl;dr: it plays a lot like ark without dinosaurs. If you like the survival aspect of ark, you’ll like the game. If you think ark has really sucky survival aspects, the games will not be fun for you. As someone who hates normal survival games like rust, scum, the forest... I really enjoy this game.

I am not a big survival game person, all of my friends know that i am anti-survival game, I've tried ark, I've tried Rust, I've tried day-z, I've tried the forest, None of them felt fun to me.

But this, This game hits different.

Boring to watch Blast to play, worth every penny, I recommend this game

Beyond a Steel Sky is a great game.
The playtime required for the game is under 10 hours
For roughly $30 i would definitely recommend this game!
