The story alone at the end almost made me flip to a thumbs up but the puzzles really ruined this game.

Boss fights were fun, fairly different. Not super hard but good.
Regular combat was generally okay. You get a variety of abilities that can spice it up a bit.
The puzzles and having to turn into a rat to get through very specific places, evading insta-kill guards and just how restrictive it was felt horrible. Apparently Dracula can not fly like a bat, only crawl like a rat or slowly mist around.

The environments were very mixed. Some were really great but others, like a big chunk of the game in the modern industrial area were pretty generic and bland.
Level flow was not great either. Dracula isn't great at going through main doors apparently. You're going down 5 levels to the sewer and up or around and around somewhere.

Extremely good game for solo/co-op or groups. Tight controls, nice graphics, fun weapons. Who doesn't want to light saber duel while flying around like spider man? oh, and the music is pretty sweet too.

The perfect game for a steam deck.

This game isn't going to run for you, don't even bother to pick it up for a dollar. That's the short of it.

I had it working initially while the world cup was going after a lot of trial and error but, thanks to garbage updates, it broke again.
"Reinstall anti-cheat"
"re-verifying files"
"reinstall the game"
"reinstall the origin/EA app"
get ready for hours of this over and over in your quest to actually play the game...and then failing to do so.

There are some rumors of a man who has a 13 step process to get this game to run...do you want that for your life? Move on from this game and don't look back.

2/21/2023: After a 1gig update where they fixed some of the anti-cheat stuff more, and reinstalling the EA app, and reinstalling the digital certificates of the anti-cheat, and running both this game and the EA app as admin, it does run again...not sure my opinion has changed much though. As least it's possible to work now.

"Played 200hrs and I don't recommend" is what I keep seeing from other reviews. I can't imagine the mental gymnastics involved here. Playing games that much for something you don't like doesn't make sense.

Darktide isn't as polished as Vermintide 2 for sure but ultimately is a still a lot of fun. There aren't a ton of real complaints about the actual gameplay, it's a team based game with mobs & specials similar to vermintide1&2/Left For Dead1&2 and it works well.

Outside of actually playing missions is where most complaints come, which I agree with also:
  • Can't select exactly the mission you want, there are set number of available missions with set difficulties and modifiers that rotate every couple minutes.
  • Crafting has some to-be-completed aspects like being able to reroll 'blessings' on weapons. You can reroll 'perks' on weapons only. It is harder to craft the exact weapon with perks that you want.
  • There is a cash shop for the best cosmetics, similar to Vermintide 2. From just leveling and basic gameplay though you get a couple cosmetic upgrades so you don't look like a prisoner all game. That plus the ability to choose your body/face appearance might okay for some. But, the ability to really give yourself a different armor/clothing look from others is very limited right now with the ingame earned currency. That could improve but currently, it's lackluster.

There is no question that there is less overall content in Darktide compared to Vermintide 2. Fewer class, few unique weapons. I do expect, given what happen with Vermintide1/2 for things to continue to be added: More missions, more classes, crafting improvements.

Without further updates though, it'll probably be a situation of getting one or two characters to level 30 and taking a break from the game. That alone was worth game price to me.

Good game, probably 80% story with some light puzzles and 20% combat. The story is about a celtic warrior and her very maddening journey through norse mythology. The VR aspect is more for immersion, which works well as devs put a lot of effort into that. The actual control is via gamepad (or keyboard/mouse). Just know this game is closer to a highly interactive story. This are no upgrades, no fetch quests: just Senua and the darkness.

Imagine making a pretty decent race game and removing almost all the content and locking it behind $200+ of DLC. Even as part of a $8 humble bundle (The originally $50 base game), the 7 cars and a couple tracks you get isn't really worth it. The game also goes out of it's way to show you all the micro transactions you could be buying. A disgrace of a game.

Buyer beware.

Pretty cool rogue like tactical shooter. Between the different classes, mission types, upgrades and items there's a lot of fun to be had. You definitely should try this out if you like this style of game.

It's a free game, which is amazing (majority of the classes are free). A couple of the classes unlock if you purchase the other Synthetik game (SYNTHETIK: Legion). This is not required to enjoy this game whatsoever. I'd recommend the commando-raider class and the mission type of either core defense or survival to start.

After you get your movement and reloads down, this game can be amazing!

Early Access Review
I liked the first Risk of Rain but I'm enjoying this even more. Great music just like the first one too(very happy about this). Devs really did a great job, it's a blast. It's the sequel that I didn't know I was waiting for!

The actual game is great( as I recall from previously playing it) but this port is one of the worst I've seen.

Cursor sensitivity w/ a Logitech G500 was a nightmere. I've never seen a game that was like this with just horrible mouse controls. After searching forums for ini fixes I was able to get it usable in game. Moving the cursor in the menu was still weird but semi-functional. After a game crash though, settings were reset. At this point I'll probably just uninstall.

In game the amount of graphical glitches was like a pre-alpha build. After the initial areas it became an issue in almost every room. Stair cases popping in and out of view, floors disappearing, you name it. Not small minor issues but major problems.

The game was not in a shippable state. Maybe future releases will fix issues but, I wouldn't recommend this version at this time.

Specificly bought this to try the Templargfxs mod that overhauls the game. I never played the actual base so I can't compare but, with the mod, I really enjoyed it playing on hardened.

Aliens were fast & deadly, often flanking. Especially in the earlier levels I had to really stay alert to keep from dying. If you enjoy the movies & this type of game, it's worth picking it up to use w/ the mod.
