I have never been a fan of these Battle Royale games, but Apex has managed to excite me from the beginning. The gameplay feels really good. The abilities of the different playable Legends create a different set of situations every time, without hiding the fact that this is a gungame. Respawn puts a lot of effort into this and it shows. It's still not perfect, but i'm sure they're getting there. I also like how they continue to tell the Titanfall-Story through the game using short sound-cues ingame and through the comic pages incorporated into the "Treasure Hunt".

Major negative Points for me:
- Servers run on 20Hz Tickrate and tend to struggle to keep up with these 60-player lobbies. It's amazing they managed to make this run on Source-Engine in the first place, so don't expect them to improve here soon.
- In-Game Voice Comms sound horrible. I believe they use the original voice codec from HL2/CSS, which even Valve has since replaced.
- The community attracts a certain type of audience that does not understand that this is a team game. They leave the game although they can still be revived or respawned. Unfortunately this is only punished in ranked play, but even here there are some unteachable ones. This is sometimes extremely frustrating. Play together with friends if you have the opportunity, this improves the experience immensely. If you are on your own, try to find like-minded people through the new clubs introduced in Season 7.

If you can look behind these issues, it's a great free2play game.

Better in every single aspect compared to the original title.

Early Access Review
Although the game only went into beta, it's pretty clear it will be one of the best arena shooters ever made.

If you liked UT2004 you like TOXIKK. It basically uses the same movement model, so you won't have a hard time to adapt. The weapons are somewhat similar to the Quake Weaponset, so no surprises on this.

About the tech stuff:
The Game is built with the Unreal Development Kit, so it uses UE3. I run it wíth ~150 FPS on a i5-4570 & GTX770, no OC. Ofcourse such stuff is map dependant, and there is only one map so far. But it should give you a clue about the performance.

The game will evolve over the next few months, so make sure you check in from time to time. That is, if you're not fully into it already! See you ingame!
