It’s hard to make a bad Katamari game. Although the physics can be kind of janky, the excellent music, customization, and level design justify a new entry in this bizarre little IP.

I don’t think any of the sequels can stand up to the original two games created by Keita Takahashi, but fans of the franchise will enjoy rolling up Katamari in this game’s charming historical environments.

A charming, relatable, and lovingly crafted autobiographical game. Even if certain aspects of the narrative don't connect with you personally (such as eating disorders and religion), anyone who felt the pressure of "doing things right" in their high school and college years will see themselves in Consume Me's protagonist, Jenny. There's a strange effect in memoir storytelling; as the experiences depicted become more specific, connecting with them becomes easier. I don't want to spoil anything, but the interactions she has with rivals, lovers, and family will stir feelings of similar situations you may have had, even if your life is completely different from Jenny's.

I think creator Jenny Jiao Hsia has done something very courageous by depicting not only her insecurities, but parts of her life that could be alienating to an audience not used to seeing these real-world struggles in video games. Consume Me is funny, heartbreaking, personal, well-paced, and unique. Please enjoy this tasty little snack of a game.

An incredibly deep RPG/roguelike with infinite replayability. It can be brutal at times, with permadeath adding real fear and tension to your runs that go 20+ hours. The lore and mystery of this world, combined with the limitless options for building your character, make this difficult and complex game an easy recommendation for anyone with the patience to stick with it.
