What if Dorothy was super into heavy metal and Oz thus reflected that? That's basically what happens with Brutal Legends. You get sucked into a world full of trees made of car mufflers, spiders that spin steel bass strings instead of web, and a "Wailing Wall" made up of giant guitar amps instead of bricks and mortar.
The story is incredibly tongue-in-cheek and had me chuckling on several occasions. They poke fun of heavy metal throughout the game, but at the same time you can tell they have a deep love for it. It has great voice acting (Jack Black normally gets on my nerves but he's fine here), and an excellent soundtrack (assuming you can tolerate heavy metal).

The gameplay is your standard open-world character action game, but what sets it apart is the RTS element which is pretty divisive. Personally, I love it, and am surprised more people didn't get into it. They've spun it out into a full-fledged multiplayer mode with matchmaking, and I'm looking forward to digging into it even more. It does have a steep learning curve, but once you get the basics down there is a lot of fun to be had.

Definitely a game worth checking out if you haven't already.

A mishmash of Asteroids and Pacman. You grow from a small asteroid to a giant black hole, with several built in challenges along the way. It's a fun little distraction when you're not looking for anything deep.

Factions is the multiplayer-only portion of "The Banner Saga." It has the same fantastic art style, music, and turn-based combat system as the singleplayer, yet boasts an incredibly simple, yet deceptively deep multiplayer. Figuring out which classes I want to put into my party, what order I want them to go in, and how they will work together can consume hours of thought. In a match, positioning and initiative become huge, as well as knowing when to kill an enemy, and when to leave them barely alive as a useless road block.

A fantastically deep game that is a must try for anyone that enjoys the turn-based strategy genre.

Narraration my friends. Sometimes that's all it takes. Add in some fun, snappy, arcade gunplay. Set it in the wild west, and you have a fantastic game on your hands.

Exploration and survival is what Terraria does best. Fun loot/gear. Multiplayer is usually full of antics. Great 16-bit art style. Definitely worth it!

Simple, unforgiving, and with a new danger around every corner. Every new game is different.

A wilderness survival game with a Tim Burton art style.

Dripping with 8-bit charm, and so hard that I sometimes want to break something, but that's what makes this platformer so great!

A much more complicated, less forgiving version of League of Legends, but just as addictive. A robust spectating mode, all heroes unlocked from the beginning, and the chance to get loot at the end of each match are just a few things that set it apart.

Great narrative, even better music, and fast, snappy gameplay.
