Wonderful Everyday (Subarashiki Hibi aka Subahibi) contains disturbing images and scenes of explicit (sexual) violence. The R18 patch is necessary.

Don’t judge a book by its cover. In Subahibi's case, make that the first few chapters – there’s more than meets the eye here, and coming to grips with the material requires a complete viewing. It’s telling how some of the negativity come from readers only partway through, where Subahibi is at its most convoluted and shocking.

I don’t blame them. Heed the warnings but keep your expectations in check. This is, first and foremost, an eroge so it does suffer from superfluous H-scenes. It’s denpa, which alludes to unreliable narrators. And as a philosophically-inclined piece, it’s not here to provide all the answers.

That’s all you need to know. I dived in just as blind and so should you.

No? Well, the VN is purely narrative with a few branching paths and endings, so a guide isn’t entirely needed. You may need to power through the opening before things gets moving, after which you’ll swing between confusion, terror, doubt, sympathy, disgust, and miraculously, happiness.

Immediately we’re thrown some Lewis Caroll and Wittgenstein. Classics and philosophy are rife, which can be a hit-or-miss for the reader — it’s either food for thought, stating the obvious, or pretentious literary masturbation. While I quite liked their approach, it gets overbearing whenever characters spout passages most teenagers have no business quoting.

Some of the sex scenes set-up key characters and events. It doesn’t shy away from being depressing and uncomfortable, or from exploring the tragic consequences that follow. Nonetheless, I get the impression that Subahibi is actively checking a list of fetishes for the eroge crowd.

Certain reveals may come across as clichés or easy excuses, though I feel they work given Subahibi’s context. Remember: Caroll and Wittgenstein. Covering up these bumps are the great soundtrack and notable voice acting from Yuki and Takuji.

20/7 found the wonderful everyday.

Great option for 3–4 players. For a top-down shooter it's full of challenge so teamwork and communication is vital; if you don't use third-party VoIP then Alien Swarm sports a range of tools (voice comms, voice messages, map tool) to facilitiate some form of control.

It may only be nine missions but with limited ammo, friendly-fire and no player respawns, expect to get familiar with the failure screen. Best part of it all is that, for some inexplicable reason, Alien Swarm[/] is free!

One of those games that'll take you less than an hour to complete, but leaves you pondering for hours afterward. Don't let the "free" tag fool you, this dark and emotional adventure game is really well-developed. Pro tip: Hit Space to higlight items of interest.

A fine example of the 2D stealth action with slick animations, a lovely soundtrack and a great ending. Completing NG+ without alerts and kills on default costume is a thrill only stealth afficianados can appreciate. Klei Entertainment does it again and I'd be MORE than happy to buy something similar in the future.

I don't like most of the tower defense games I play, but Defense Grid has the honour of being one I can heartily recommend. The voice acting alone makes this a worthwhile title, but it's really the many levels and challenges that round up the experience this game offers. Not to mention the sweet sci-fi designs too! If you grab the DLC you'll get to meet GLaDOS by the way.

If you're looking for multiplayer action that's big on character and humour (and memes!) then Castle Crashers is the game for you. This 2D action-platformer features some surprisingly challenging combat for a game of it's nature, but the skills, rudimentary stats-levelling system and plethora of weapons make it all worthwhile. Also: pets.

Terry Cavanagh does it yet again, gracing the world with a title that's simple in looks but full on gameplay. The goal is simple but the path is wrought with peril -- literally. Easily the best couple of dollars I've spent, with a value that's worth tonnes more than some of the pricier games.

Game over.
