The Heist Experience
Payday 3 continues the cooperative multiplayer FPS tradition of its predecessors. You and your crew of three friends take on increasingly elaborate heists. The story, while thin, reunites the motley crew of criminals, including Hoxton and Chains, as they’re forced out of retirement by shadowy figures. Unfortunately, the story itself is merely a sequence of slides with voiceovers, lacking depth. But it hints at what the future might bring.

Gameplay Improvements
From the moment you step into your first robbery at the “local bank branch,” the gameplay feels upgraded. Movement and gunplay are smoother, with modern maneuvers like sliding adding depth. Weapons feel punchier, and you can even use civilian hostages as meat shields. The game’s mechanics have evolved significantly, making Payday 3 feel like a proper sequel.

The Vault Is a Bit Bare
However, Payday 3 isn’t without its flaws. The vault of content feels a bit sparse at the moment. With a limited pool of jobs to tackle, players might find themselves yearning for more variety. The story’s lack of depth also leaves something to be desired.

The Verdict
Payday 3 is a promising start, but it’s not the giant leap forward some hoped for. Bugs persist, and the story remains underwhelming. Yet, if Payday 2’s post-launch support is any indication, we’re in for another decade of pistol-whipping cashiers and fixing drills.
