I remember feeling very dissapointed with Arma 3 when it first came out back in 2013. It had way less content than Arma 2 and Arma 2 OA, and I felt at the time like Arma 2's awesome communities were destroyed and placed by a large influx of players that didn't know how to work together.

I'm glad to say I feel very different about the game now. First and foremost, Arma 3's mod support is awesome. Some tinkering is required to get your workshop mods to work on Linux. However, unlike with many games, this is a relatively simple and intuitive thing to do. Arma 3's DLC's are largely unnecessary if you don't want them, and there are mods that can do what they do better. I guess the main one that you need is the Apex edition. Yeah, the "Buy the DLC" popup when you don't have contentt is quite annoying. However, you can generally pick up all of the DLCs during a steam sale for relatively cheap.

If you like milsims, Arma 3 is probably the best pick. Yeah, there are latency issues. You can definitely feel the lag when you input controls but it is still a good game. I hope that future Arma releases match 3's quality.

Early Access Review
Overall, I like this game. It's a unique take on the free roam monster catching genre, and you can indeed sink a lot of hours in this game over a short period of time. The character and sound design of the game are pretty good and I have had fun playing it. There's a good amount of mechanical depth with the base building too.

There are some things that I wish they had from Ark, and don't get me wrong, I don't particularly like Ark as a game but there are some things that Ark simply does better. First are inventories, Your Pals do not have an inventory. This can get very tedious as when you are encumbered, you can barely move.

I also don't like the way that flying feels in this game. I guess that they had to do this to make combat more balanced, but ugh, flying feels slow.

Lastly, and this **is** a planned feature, they need to implement portable saves similar to Valheim so that way I can bring my Pals to play with friends but still continue in my single player playthrough. Transferring the save every time will not suffice as it is a relatively tedious process.

Still, overall this game is a recommend for me. I quite enjoy it, and the devs deserve your support.

I'm sorry but this game is absolutely horrible. The gameplay renders it unplayable at times. Attack this, kill that. There is absolutely no depth to combat, and it really is a grind.

Early Access Review
After Wildcard's recent questional conduct, I cannot, in good conscious, give this game a good review. The fact that they deemed it acceptable to lower the price of Ark to $17 and create a DLC for $20 in order to minimize the consumer surplus is morally reprehensible. I, personally, will never buy an Early Access game again because of this.

It is clear that Wildcard will not do anything to remedy their error. There are still plenty of bugs in this game that are unfixed, and will probably remain this way. Do not buy this game.
