Well after around 5 hours of game time thus far, I personally really enjoy this game. The time period is on of my favourites, and the gameplay is generally just fun.

I have now gotten just over 15 hours in game and I really have to say that I am truly enjoying the experience it has given me. The reviews in my view do NOT reflect the game. Are there things I would like added? Yes, I would love some more character interactions for a start and more building options, but my desire for those to be added does not take away from my enjoyment of the base game.

I know Paradox will develop this game and add a lot of content down the road and I am excited to see where it goes. I just hope that they don't abandon it due to the negative feedback.

This game is not as good as the New Order was, the gameplay was lower quality, and the standard of story writing went downhill.

Gameplay
The gameplay for the New Colossus is fun, and if you enjoyed the New Order you will enjoy the gameplay here too. It does however feel less polished than the first one and I don't know if it's just me, but when trying to drop down hatches it takes a few seconsd to line your hitbox up with the hatch perfectly else you can't drop in.
I started playing the game on the hardest difficulty, as I had done with the New Order, but I quickly found that rather than actually making the game harder, they just punish. Your health drains in about 4 shots, while the enemy take around 3/4 of a magazine to kill, while taking the stealth option they will sometimes spot you when they really shouldn't be able to see you and your guns are as useless as a marzipan dildo, playing on medium seemed to be the only way to get a somewhat balanced game. Spoiler(ish) side note (this is just after the first mission). When you get the power armour that Caroline had, you still die in about 4 hits, whereas when she had it she was basically invincible in the previous game, just took me out of the immersion a bit.

Story Notes
The backstory they add to BJ is an example of the story really shinning in my opinion, but these moments were marred by some of the very questionable decisions in the story and characters for this game.
I love Anya, she is one of my favourite characters in the game behind Furgus, but there is no way in hell someone as pregnant as she is could do half of the stuff you see her do in game especially without suffering a misscarriage. Also, what are they doing sending a heavily pregnant woman to do the fighting for them, when there are loads of people still on the submarine that are perfectly capable to fighting, but never seem to leave the submarine.

One other notable gripe I had with the game (a minor complaint, but it annoyed me, also SPOILER ALERT) When Caroline dies, you meet this woman called Grace in Manhatten, she comes to help your resistance movement, fair enough. However she seems to arrive and immediatley take charge on your entire movement having been with you for all of 10 seconds with no explanation as to why she got the job. I also personally found her a rather detestable character for most the game due to the way she talked to and treated other characters that she was supposed to be leading. I for one would not follow Afro ♥♥♥♥♥ if she treated me like that, so why did she become leader?

Conclusion

I realise this is more of a rant than a review, but since I loved the New Order so much the negatives in this game were probably multiplied in my eyes.
I do recomend the game *on sale* IF you enjoyed the New Order's story and you want to see how it progresses otherwise it may not be worth it

I have never played a HoI4 game before, but I do love other paradox grand stratergy games, and had heard that HoI had been difficult to learn how to play in the past.
HoI4 does not seem to fit the stereo type as it only took around an hour to learn (something that is not too common with paradox games). the game is really easy to get immersed in, it has a great atmosphere and has gameplay that could keep you coming back to HoI4 for hours on end.
I recommend this game 100%.
If you like grand stratergy games and you're interested in world war 2 this game is a must buy!
