Feels like playing one of the hyper kinetic oddball cartoons I grew up with like Ed Edd & Eddy, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Tom and Jerry, etc. One of the few games I was always excited to keep playing to see whatever charming insanity it'd come up with next.

It's also a really good game. Ultra juicy super high speed sonic-esque action platforming with a deep and high-mastery skill ceiling and character action style ranking based on combos and speed. Insanely fun adrenaline rush to play, whether you're gittin-gud or just enjoying the ride.

This will probably be my goty unless something utterly mind blowing comes out.

RE3 Remake has a bad reputation compared to the second game's remake. In addition to cutting a lot from the original, it was made by a "B-Team" who didn't quite "get" classic Resident Evil gameplay the way the RE2M team did, resulting in a game that struggles mechanically and tonally.

That being said, I still like it a lot. You might call it a guilty pleasure.

There's a lot to complain about. The new dodge mechanic invalidates classic RE resource management since you just dodge past many monsters who'd force a fight/flight choice before, but it doesn't work as a blastathon like RE4/Desd Space since the action is rarely as consistent. This is all exacerbated by the second third of the game going way overboard on linear set-pieces.

However, when it hits the mark, like in the exploration focused areas (streets, hospital), or some of the more inventive combat scenarios (brainsucker maze, sewers) it's intense and memorable

Overall it suffers most from not being able to decide what it wants to be. Is it smart survival horror or adrenaline pumping action-horror? Devs didn't seem to knoww. But the parts of the game that are inspired and creative still shine through and are worth experiencing despite all the balls it drops.

I like this and the sequel a lot better than Ritual. Looks better and the Classicvania gameplay with tight level design holds up better than "the same metroidvania you played on the ps1/gba/ds but bigger and with worse audiovisuals".

It also has enough unique stuff that I don't find myself feeling like I'd rather just replay Castlevania 1 / Bloodlines / X68 Akumajo Dracula again. There are alternate routes through the game where you gain some interesting abilities not seen in other Classicvania games that change your playstyle quite a bit while still keeping that high-commitment "buy your jumps a wedding ring" style.

Overall pretty fun and worth it if you like the OG games (I do, and if you don't then you're lame).

Sort of like Metal Gear except sometimes there's only one guard and he wants to eat your face. Actually that was probably in a Metal Gear game at some point.

This game is an engaging ride with an interesting and fun concept, though I personally feel the core stealth element on which everything else is built is the weakest aspect. Using resources to distract or temporarily drive off the beast creates some wonderfully tense moments that reward creative and quick thinking, but passively hiding in a locker while you wait for the Alien AI to - ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ FINALLY - walk away and let you get on with your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ day already is often tedious. Furthermore hiding is what the game wants you to by default, since it's the only solution to encounters that doesn't consume your scarce resources.

Still,the game’ atmosphere is great and it has many fun and tense moments. It's at its most haunting when you're simply traversing the ship's corridors, cautiously observing your environment for escape routes in case the lurking horror randomly appears. Overall I enjoyed the game a ton and I think it’s worth a try for survival horror aficionado’s, though it did affirm to me that the 2010's "run and hide" school of survival horror design lacks depth compared to the classics of the genre.

I feel like Arcsys modern fighters are a bit overdesigned. Everything does exactly what it's supposed to do in order to make matches play out the way the developers envisioned.

"Okay we're going to play footsies at midscreen until I hitconfirm into my knockdown then I run my mixup game in the corner"

I miss the chaos and weird situations of old kuso fighting games. On the other hand I would sex Ramlethal, so a few shortcomings can be forgiven.

Very fun core gameplay with probably the second most satisfying first person melee combat I've experienced...once the game finishes loading.

This may take long enough that you can watch a full anime episode in the mean time. I recommend something to get into the appropriate Warhammer 40k mood, like Toradora or Sono Bisque Doll.

Over the years I've come to see Platinum Game's game design as extremely over-rated. Designing everything around one-button defensive mechanics and perfectly timed counter-attacks makes combat feel more like a rhythm game, and it's hard to go back to a game where 90% of your huge moveset is locked behind dial-a-combo strings after playing something more freeform like Devil May Cry.

That being said Bayonetta is such a well made game that whenever I pick it up, I find myself tempted to play through the entire story all over again. It's got super energetic pacing, great setpieces, platforming and minigames that are actually fun and well incorporated, etc.

Overall I guess it's proof that if a game has a sense of fun to it, that's more important than OCD game design complaints. At least for me.

But if you're going to only play one game of this genre, play Devil May Cry instead.

Doom is still superior due to the enemies being less tanky and the projectiles being slower and more "3d shmup"-ish, but in terms of atmosphere and mood there's really nothing quite like playing this through with the original Nine Inch Nails soundtrack.

♥♥♥♥♥♥' sick first person character action game. Show those homeless mad max ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who's boss with your sick parries.

For real though I like this game. Some of the best feeling melee combat I've seen in a first person game.

Granted the fighting is a bit simple: you swing, kick, and parry and that's mostly it, so there's not a ton of depth or (rare firearm aside) variety to battles. Later encounters do start to feel a bit repetitive, but all in all the simple reflex testing combat feels viscerally fun enough that it's hard to care.

The level design is also a bit linear and purely combat focused for my horror game tastes, but the core gameplay is still fun enough to carry it and it's got a unique setting with solid atmosphere.

Would definitely recommend to fans of classic horror and brutal melee combat.
