Vince Rowe Reviews
Saving the Industry one Game at a Time!

[YouTube Link] [Curation Link]

========================================

An amazing little puzzle platformer coupled with great 8-bit music and good old fashioned collectables!

Verdict - 8.0/10

Scroll to the bottom for an 'Overall' on the game.

Gameplay - 9/10:

Out There Somewhere starts off as a side-scroller shooter that you're pretty much destined to lose causing you to crash down to the planet below - this is where the real game begins. It's a pretty simple platformer but the twist is the teleport gun you get, it shoots like an ordinary gun and you'll be teleported to where it hits instantly with all of your momentum preserved. It flows really well making the movement of the game extremely fluid. You also get a 'Guass Gun' which is basically just a pew pew that kills enemies and breaks blocks. There are a few NPCs with a little bit of inane dialogue, and collectables littered across the landscape which - a majority of them - are puzzles. I played the entire game with the controller and it worked perfectly, haven't tried it with a keyboard though and quite frankly I don't want to.

Level Design - 9/10:

Level Design - or essentially the Puzzles - are all pretty great but most are based on timings and not necessarily using any logic, there are some red herrings with some of the puzzles but generally there are more 'jumping puzzles' than 'actual puzzles'. There are different types of blocks you'll encounter while you progress through the game like Glass, Mirrors, and Broken Blocks that spice it up a little, but I won't go into detail as it is a puzzle platformer after-all. Finally, there are enemies, all of which are pretty stupid, the AI is kind of dumb and mostly set up in way where they are only required to do one action. Don't expect to be doing any combat in this Platformer! The world itself is pretty cool though, coupled with the secrets and collectables it - partially - rewards exploration, I would have liked it if they made exploration more rewarding and beat off the linear path every so often with more easter eggs.

Audio - 7/10:

The music is pretty great, it's an 8-bit Techno-Sci-Fi style and fits in the game perfectly, the soundtrack of this game is excellent. Unfortunately that's about it though, sound wasn't used as well as it could have been and there's no voice acting with the dialogue...

Graphics - 7/10:

The graphics, which you can probably gather from the screenshots or from my gameplay footage are a dark, pixel art style, it reminds me of Risk of Rain, whilst I'm not the biggest fan of pixel art - as I normally feel that it's more of the lazy way out of the graphics situation - it does fit in with the game nicely.

Overall - 8.0/10:

A bloody great platformer that I thoroughly enjoyed playing! If you're a fan of puzzle platformers then Out There Somewhere definitely needs to be in your Steam Library. I completed it in about an 1 and 1/2 hours - but not 100% collectables/achievements. I did feel that it may have been a tad too easy though... I like my Platformers to be challenging!

I didn't know how to review this properly, so I'll write it down like a diary.

Got a free key for the game
Downloaded the game
Game crashed on startup
Went to the forums
Downloaded some shady Nvidia physics ♥♥♥♥ thing
Started up
Game wanted my personal information
Lied about everything (typed in Tunguzija everywhere)
Entered the game after another crash
First cutscene played
Heard the voice acting
Died of laughter
Returned to life
Played a bit
Nothing special happened
Got more quests
Peasent one shotted me.
He did it again
♥♥♥♥er did it again
Decided to move on
Killed some enemies
They ragdolled into trees
I started questioning my life choices
Did some more quests
Got some loot
Met a guy named Ferid
Maybe he is ISIS
/joke
Killed more orc things (I think they are called Groms or something)
Found a black bear
I started fighting him
I died in 3 hits
The fight was fierce
I felt like in Dark Souls
Maybe I should tell my crush I love her
Started to think what the ♥♥♥♥ I am doing with my life
Killed the ♥♥♥♥ing bear
Got nothing
2 feet forward I ecountered 2 half naked bandits and one full clothed one
I thought they were having nasty thoughts
Killed them
Moved forward
Saw a pack of wolves
They ♥♥♥♥ed me up
Got revived nearby a shrine
They were camping there
I just threw myself onto them like 4-5 times
Won
Got nothing (I see a pattern with animals)
Killed a camp full of Grom
Got a horse
Named him Jordan
He's an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Terrible controls with the horse
Got into a canyon
Was filled with raptors that can 1 shot you
Exited
Went into multiplayer
Registered
Entered character creator
It was amazing
A lot of classes, male and female options, detailed creator
Server browser
EVERYTHING EMPTY
Joined anyways
Chose a town
Started some quests
Wait, this is a MMO and Singleplayer in one?
A russian joined with end-gear
He looked weird
♥♥♥♥ this.
Exited.
Shame really, as the multiplayer is pretty neat and it can make the replayabilty better, getting new gear and leveling up.
Shut down the game and decided to play more tommorow.

UPDATE 2
I finally decided to play more. Here we go (this one will be shorter).
I swear to god I don't know where I am.
Found Jordan again.
He's still an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
I ran through the velociraptors.
"♥♥♥♥ you too".
Found a teleporter.
Got back to the ISIS guy.
I was scared.
I know how those reporters felt.
/2soon
He told me some ♥♥♥♥.
Oloha Snackbar to you too my friend.
Went down the road with Jordan.
The song "Tip Toeing in my Jordans" started to play.
Why are there more bears here?
I found some red clothed ♥♥♥♥er.
He told me to find green clothed ♥♥♥♥er.
Started questioning why am I still playing this?
Talked to Luigi.
Returned to Mario.
Yeah, I know, Praise Budha...
They told me they held captive my sister.
Wait, I thought I worked for the ISIS?
/joke2
She told me to find a node.
K.
Got rekt by bandits that were, half naked....... whyyyyyyyyyyyy
Jordan was still an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
I found the ♥♥♥♥ing node.
She told me to find another node.
Okay, WHAT THE ♥♥♥♥ WAS THE POINT OF THIS?
Decided to blow it off and do some sidequests.
Foudn a random guy yelling about some random ♥♥♥♥ about the temple.
I went to the first area.
Used the key he gave me.
Spent 15-20 minutes to lockpick 2 boxes.
Got jack ♥♥♥♥.
♥♥♥♥.
Moved on.
While I was rolling with Jordan, I found some racists.
They hated Dwarves.
Because why not?
A guy wanted me to help him.
He didn't get his money for the last delivery of his eggs....
WHAT.
HOW.
WHY.
Everyone, listen to this!
BROTHERHOOD CAN'T PAY FOR ♥♥♥♥ING EGGS.
I went to their base.
Bypassed the guard that was there.
He was ♥♥♥♥ing ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Some guy wanted me to find his bro.
K.
I went up the hill to their REAL base.
I entered a dungeon.
Started to question the game design.
You can't kill the skeletons.
Helped the one person inside (the other one was dead).
The dead one is the brother of the last num nut.
The one that was alive started fighting skeletons and (I think) got killed?
Dunno, I ran.
Some more ♥♥♥ skeletons showed up.
Went to the base and did everything.
Realised the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I was hunting that didn't pay the eggs is in another ♥♥♥♥ing outpost.
WHAT.
HOW.
WHY.
Anyway, I find him.
After 30 mins of looking for him.
He had amazing armor and a glowing sword, I was scared.
When I told him I wanted to fight him, he wanted to give me 2k (the quest giver wanted to give me 1k) so I don't kill him.
He's a ♥♥♥♥♥.
I kill him after 20 tries.
There was a revival stone nearby.
Looted his body.
He had no ♥♥♥♥ing 2k on him.
Went back to the quest giver.
Got my 1k.
Killed the ♥♥♥♥er.
He can also one shot you (I see a patern with peasents)
I'mtired.
It's midnight.
I killed him too.
Looted his stuff.
Killed some bandits one my way back home.
Wolves came.
We all got ♥♥♥♥ed.
Is it over yet?
I decided to take a break...
♥♥♥♥ me.

To be continued...
Now excuse me while I go play Raven's Cry.

Real-ish review: I recommend this game with all my hearth. It is broken and I LOVE IT. Try it out, it is great gameplay wise, and even story wi- ahah nah, the story is just ♥♥♥♥.

The Culling of the Cows is an absurdist gag game that, while it may provide you with all the rampant bovine slaughter you could ever dream of, is as of now not at all worth the price paid for it.

As a lone farmer stranded in rural 'Murica, you must overcome the armies of mutant cows, deranged hippies and obese gothic women that a Nazi UFO sends your way. By reading the previous sentence, it should be quite clear that this game is not taking itself too seriously. However, there is a clear difference between random humor with a purpose and random just for random's sake; this game strictly falls into the latter. Culling is basing its appeal entirely on the fact that the player gets to shoot cows...a lot. All of the other plot points mentioned in the beginning of this paragraph receive no explanation besides a single introduction screen per plot point, and are otherwise meant to serve as comedic masks for generic enemy types.

The game's fundamentals are disappointingly lacking. Gameplay is divided into levels that contain encounters in either standard "Waves" format, a variation of Waves that is only one large wave, or a last-stand turret mode called "Onslaught". The majority of the game's levels occur in the Waves format, with varying numbers and types of enemies and waves for each level. This variety does little to put off the repetition that sets in after a few rounds of slaughtering the same few animals and zombies over and over. The Waves format does allow for some character customization in weapon upgrades, but after a certain amount of experimentation I discovered an order of upgrades that, with moderate skill, could win all the levels. Some incentive in the level design to switch up gameplay styles would have gone a long way. The other gameplay mode, Onslaught, produces some of the most frustrating levels in the game due to sketchy hit detection, though it often provides a refreshing and enjoyable break from the Waves levels as well.

Various other parts of the game fail to stand out. The soundtrack isn't memorable and the art style has this feel to it that so many indie games seem to have, which at worst could be descibed as "one step above MS Paint". Largely, the game isn't bad-looking; it just has a habit of piling hundreds of multicolored cow corpses on the screen at once, which grates on the senses and leaves a lasting impact after seeing it over and over. Some parts of the game seem to be implemented strangely: controller support, despite being labelled as both "partial" and "full", relegates movement solely to the D-Pad, which is an odd choice. Culling's achievements are also strange: there are only five, four can be attained by the third level (two are bugged to only work with the keyboard) and the fifth is for beating the game. More achievements could help boost replayability, a facet which is important in this game considering it can be finished in just over three hours. Though most levels contain medals to earn for winning under certain conditions, the game doesn't offer rewards for earning the medals, which makes them largely meaningless. Perhaps tying some customization unlocks to medals would solve this issue?

Though this game faces significant issues, I must give praise to the spirit of the developers. They've implemented some features like an internal cheat console, the achievements and trading cards by popular demand. Additionally, their desire to not make this game be simply a joke shows throughout the game. The farmer's voiceover has some genuinely unique and funny lines interspersed throughout the game, which work because the lines are not beaten to death in every level. As long as the developers stand by the good-hearted cow hate that is the root of this game, there's hope that this could turn into an indie cult classic in the future.

This game has set off on a mission: to spread the need to shoot cows whenever, wherever. It tries to achieve its goals through a game that has significant flaws. Should the developers focus on the problems that plague the core elements of the game, then this title will definitely deserve a second look. As of now, however, there is no way anyone would feel satisfied paying full price for this game. Save up for a sale, perhaps gift this to a friend in jest. Just...beware the cows. The Culling of the Cows gets a D.

I have already posted a negative review on this game because of the horrible controls. And i have deleted it. Don't really like that updated review will still be somewhere on the bottom of the list. Also i want to do it justice. Developers of this game are super cool for supporting their game long after the release and trying to find a way to please all the gamers. Controls are now WAY better than they were (now it actually selects tiles, not the objects on the tiles and there is a visual cue what object will be selected if you click your mouse button, also they've added more alternate controls options). For such great support only they deserve a Yes.

The game itself is a mix of puzzle and speed. I don't really like the speed element, especially when the puzzle element itself can be mind boggling alone, and then you have to do all very fast. But that's just me. And you can still do just puzzles, if you don't want to earn every star (sorry, light bulb) on a level. Artistic style is cartoonish and pleasant. There is also a shop in the game to spend your dollars earned for completing the levels and doing extra bonus things on some levels. You can buy outfits for your characters :) It's a bit silly, but still, you are using those points you are collecting, not just playing for the highscore and if you are a completionist it may be fun to buy all the outfits and complete some achievements along. All in all a little pretty puzzle game with a nice support. But if you don't like the speed element, maybe you should skip it or play just the puzzle parts, though many of them still require to move objects in time.

Poorly made game. At launch you only have russian text and have to navigate trough to the settings to get english. Some of the text is still not english. Got myself into a game, very poor performance and boring game. Easy to kill and not any fun. Got kicked randomly for some reason (russian text) and now im sitting here writing this review. Not recommended until further development.

Rating is 2/10

Knights and Merchants, or KaM to those of us that have played the game on and off for decades, is a fantastic and fun game in which you build and fight in a variety of lands. Each 'mission' has it's own goals, however they do tend to blend together and every new map seems to have the same goal. Battle missions, where there is no building, are quick, and you will find yourself on the losing end if you're not paying attention. First time players will see themselves restarting a battle mission a time or two.

KaM is an old game indeed, and this release on Steam finds you with the original, "The Shattered Kingdom" and the next release "The Pesants Rebellion" (both known to the community as TSK and TPR respectively. The Steam version also includes an "HD Version" which modifies the graphics a bit and the game speed. It also opens up all buildings starting at mision 1 which is not what the orginal game does.

If you are into strategy build sims then KaM is a game you will want on your list!

That said, if you buy this game from Steam or from GOG, I would recommend you play TSK and TPR missions 1-3 only. That will give you the fundamentals of the game and how it works. You'll also see several issues with the game and you may encounter a bug or two. Even with the bugs in the original game, it is worth playing, and worth your time. Why only the first 3 missions you may ask. Well, that's because as awesome as the game is, it gets better with the KaM Remake.

Once you see the game in all its original glory, you simply MUST go get the KaM Remake from www.kamremake.com to enjoy the game with today's computer capabilities.

The good folks over at KaM Remake have rebuild this awesome game from scratch and added some enhancements, such as better AI, a map editor and the ability for you not only to create your own maps, but make your own missions or even entire campaigns. They have truly taken a great game, and made it better using all the original game pieces such as the units, environments, and animations, and recreated the game code to support today's computing power and screen sizes. My personal favorite, is the ability to zoom in and out with the mouse wheel.

While the KaM Remake has removed two building types for game balance, they added the Marketplace, which was part of the original game but never implemented. The Marketplace adds a new factor to the game, allowing you to trade one type of resource for another. This opens up a TON of options for map, mission, and campaign creators.

Additionally, the KaM Remake is FREE. Yep, you heard me, FREE. However you must own KaM in order for the Remake to install and work. Details can be found at www.kamremake.com

Buy this game. Get the remake. You'll be glad you did.

Please note that I have only played Episode 1 (it's free) so far.

Caution: Despite the cute graphics this game is NOT for children! There is hanging, people getting blasted to bits, getting burned on a pyre and more.

The episodes are standalone stories with each of a playtime of around 30 minutes. The gameplay and controlls are very easy to pick up. You play as Grimm, whose goal it is to make everything around him nasty and turn happy people into rotten ones. You do this by simply walking around. As you do that your stink power will grow and allow you to turn bigger and bigger objects into smelly ones and later even the people. But you have to be careful, the good people are out to clean up your mess.

The game is well animated and the voice-acting fitting. The only problem I encountered was repeatedly getting temporarily stuck on invisible objects and borders.

The creators have repeatedly stated that because they no longer have access to the game source they will not add achievements to this game. This also means that there will be no further episodes added or problems fixed (smoothing out objects edges so as to not get stuck), so don't expect anything on that front.

All in all a really fun and easy game for teenagers and adults looking for a short break.

Garry's Mod 13

Garry's Mod 13

Garry's Mod 13
