Great way to play your favourite tabletop war games and board games during the pandemic. The precise measuring system actually makes it better than playing traditional tabletop games with a ruler in many respects.

A great successor to the previous Xcom Game. The canonical ending of Xcom 2012 is that you lost and the aliens colonized earth, and now you (the same commander who failed in the previous game) are leading a guerrilla war against the alien occupiers.

The core gameplay mechanics are largely unchanged, but the addition of a stealth mechanic allows you to open your plays with an ambush on your first engagement. One of the most annoying parts of the previous game was the fact that enemies could generally detect you and run into cover as soon as you encountered them. Now you can sneak around undetected and smoke them in an ambush, after which point you will then be revealed. Balancing your desire to set up a perfect ambush against the relatively low time limit on most missions is where a lot of the difficulty and decision making comes from.

I would recommend playing the vanilla game through one or twice, then picking up Long War 2 mod. The depth and challenge of the game is dramatically increased and I've enjoyed the mod so much that I can't bring myself to play the game unmodded anymore.

Great game if you like turn-based RPGs that use probability mechanics. Anyone who has played challenging games like Xcom should give this a try - very unforgiving in a good way. Much like Xcom, you start out with a band of worthless cannon fodder and you have to build them into an A-team through gaining experience and acquiring better equipment. The DLC has significantly improved replayability - the game now has many different mercenary company origins that significantly change the way the game plays right from the start. They also add new enemies and a crafting system that lets you build custom equipment and armour additions.

10/10 my favourite indie game by a wide margin.
