Frane: Dragons' Odyssey. It's a classic action JRPG developed by Exe-Create and published by KEMCO. As you may know, Exe-Create is a veteran developer team with more than 15 years of experience making projects since classic PC games & SEGA Saturn console titles. And KEMCO is especially well known as a JRPG mobile game publisher. Recently, they are porting their previous games to various platforms including Steam. Some of their games were not able to play anymore due to changes in the platform environment. So it is a great pleasure to be able to meet such wonderful games again.

Dragons' Odyssey was originally released as a mobile game in 2012, and it received great responses from users at that time. However, changes in the platform environment have made it impossible to see this game in the mobile market anymore. This Steam release is closer to the remastered version compared with its original title(2012). A few years ago, in Steam Greenlight, the game was once a hot spot for users, but it did not lead to a clear result. And finally this game landed on Steam! Unfortunately, not all the features mentioned in Greenlight are implemented, and some features have been removed compared to the original. But these things do not have a big impact on the actual gameplay, and this new remaster quality is good enough.

In particular, Dragons' Odyssey was a very impressive game. The illustrations are rebranded with new 2D anime graphics, and but it is possible to choose original graphics from options according to the player's taste. The main content of the game is almost complete. Various dungeons and interesting plots are prepared. The characters are unique and well suited to the story. The game includes Easter eggs and pixel motion graphics that give you a little more fun. The battle style is an action game, similar to the classic YS I & II. It will be more fun than expected. In addition, the game has crafts and cooking systems, and the player's house would be becoming more and more lively with NPCs. Above all, there is likability for each heroine, so you can give your items and foods you made as gifts. It may change the story for your dream come true! Frane: Dragons' Odyssey. It is a really good remaster version. Although not all features introduced in Steam Greenlight have been implemented, this game already has amazing quality. If the developer / publisher can afford it, we hope that some deleted features, including Japanese voices, will be added in future updates. This game is qualified to be called the spiritual successor of the classic action JRPG. Hope that these wonderful games will be played by more and more global players in the future. 東方幕華祭 春雪篇 Touhou Makuka Sai ~ Fantastic Danmaku Festival part II. It's the great 2nd project from its 1st game. It does not matter which one you start with. Both game series are great. If you can afford it, enjoy it all. These are great games that are worth trying. Of course, this new game has been upgraded overall. (o´・ω-)b

Gameplay is fantastic! There are 6 stages and 1 additional extra stage. Depending on the player's taste, 4 difficulty levels are availalbe. Practice mode is also prepared. one playtime is less than 1 hour from the start to the end. But the replay value is very high. In addition, the music fits well with the game vibe and is really great. There is a simple conversation between characters for each stage. The translation is a bit rough, but not enough to ruin the game. Remember the main game content is a bullet shooting game. Nonetheless, its Touhou Project artworks are nice!ヽ(=´▽`=)ﾉ

Touhou Fantastic Danmaku Festival Part 2. It's a really good STG. Even if you do not know about the Touhou Project series, you can enjoy this game enough. The game itself is awesome. "A really cool anime action game from Ximending in Taipei."

Dusk Diver 酉閃町. It's an anime action game based on the real Taiwanese sightseeing spot, Ximending. The game itself is not only interesting but also players can experience the developer's love towards Taiwan. For sure, that passion would have been the motivation which drives this developer team into creating Dusk Diver. Its first gameplay was exposed at Taipei Game Show 2019, and the users' reactions at that time seems very good.

Dusk Diver features active combat sensation, and fighting along with your partner guardians gives the experience watching a vibrant animation movie. Its story based on the defeat demons to protect Ximending. Thanks to the real attraction point street scene, players can take yourself to experience Ximending without physically being there. Fresh attempts to reflect actual tourist spots in the game are positively valued. Besides, the animation that expresses them is really good. If you are anime lovers, you can hear the best preferred voicing as you want. It may be rather normal as an action game, but overall it is slightly above average.

Dusk Diver 酉閃町. It is a fairly impressive anime game. It features interesting tourist attractions, so players can experience them vividly. "The only Fate Series game that supports 'multiplayer' available on Steam."

Fate/EXTELLA LINK. It is a high-speed servant action game that reflects the world view from the attractive Fate Series. Its gameplay has improved much better than its previous game, Fate/EXTELLA. Instead, the story volume(mode) is less than its previous project. But surely charming Fate Series characters appear, and these things provide a cool & brilliant game experience with refined action mechanisms. Overall it could be recommended!

Sephirothic Stories. This game was made by Exe-Create and published by KEMCO. Exe-Create has been working with KEMCO to develope nice classic JRPGs. They are well known especially in the field about mobile JRPG games. And you can easily find the classic JRPG games developed by Exe-Create on Steam too. If you are more interested in KEMCO, check out the mobile games they publish. While information about them may seem a bit lacking in Steam, there are a lot of user reviews for them in the mobile market (GooglePlay and AppStore).

Back to comments again about Sephirothic Stories, it is a JPRG game that Exe-Create tried to apply 3D graphics. This reminds us of PlayStation 2 game titles. These attempts were good, but they did not make the actual gameplay smooth. The anime characters concept and illustrations were good, but their 3D modelings are poor. Most of the 3D motions are a little awkward. Of course, It's not enough to ruin gameplay itself. But if you are sensitive to it, it could irritate your play. Through experience gained from this game development, I hope that developers will improve their know-how about 3D graphics. Even if the 3D graphics were applied, its system minimum requirements seemed to be overestimated. The game will run on a PC with a minimum requirement lower than that described in the Steam store. It did not take up much resources in the actual game play.

Except for its 3D graphics, the gameplay experience is fine overall. The story is plain but typical JRPG. The world is at stake, and you begin your adventure to solve it. On such a journey, the player meets the colleagues and gradually overcomes difficulties. Such a process may be too familiar to users, but enjoying it itself will be the attraction from the classic JRPG. As the player travels through the open world in this game, you will solve various puzzles, explore dungeons, and defeat monsters. The battle is on a turn based basis and is somewhat similar to their another well-made game Asdivine Hearts. Especially music is one of the best parts in this game. Every soundtrack fits in each situation and makes the users play the adventure. The game is not especially outstanding, but it is not a bad game either. If you liked the classic JRPG, especially PS2 games, it would be nice to enjoy this game too.

The Caligula Effect: Overdose. This game is made by FURYU and published by NIS America. It was originally released in 2016 on PS VITA, but this time the JRPG was remastered as Overdose on PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. This Overdose has new characters added and graphics improved compared to its previous game. Its catchphrase is 'Break The Ideal & Return To Reality'. The origin of the title was motivated by the Caligula effect, which means that the more the prohibited, the more wanted it. The scenario was written by Tadashi Satomi from ATLUS who participated in the Persona Series, and Artworks by Oguchi Illustrator. In addition, the original BGM in the game included the famous vocaloid composer 40mP and the OSTER project. In this way, related famous developer & artists from subculture, games, and animation were participated in 'The Caligula Effect: Overdose'. Players can enjoy their great contents in this game enough.

Developer Furyu is a company with a fairly unique stance. It started as a subsidiary of OMRON, a famous electronics measurement company in Japan. Furyu is involved in animation production as well as console game title development. And it is already a company with more than 10 years of experience. Although their projects have not been famous or successful, their works still have a certain level of quality. The Caligula Effect, released on Steam this time, is also one of their original title games. And as mentioned earlier, Furyu has the anime production department, so TV animation series based on this game was broadcast last year. Anyway, Nyanco Channel's first impression review about this game is as follows.

In game play, battle and story take up a large part. In the case of combat, a combo system is used to defeat the enemy. There are some games that already use the concept of combo in other RPGs, but in this game, the battle style is designed so that the player can select the direction and click the button to make it easier to use. In addition, the player controls only the main characters, and the rest of the team members can be set to move automatically. Or you can manually control everything. In other words, you can play combat simply or in detail, depending on your taste. The skills of your fellow characters are also well represented in the characters' unique features, and you can create combo routes through their special skills. But the balance of the battle is uneven. Later, without worrying about combo connections, you can easily clear most battles just by pressing the button.

The graphics give the impression that you are watching Japanese animation. Each character is well represented by their own unique traumas. Especially, the meaning of symbol design for each character matches with its game theme. At first it's hidden what it means, but the more you play the game, the better the way it gets solved. In addition, game UI styles are presented intuitively and sophisticated in menus and battle scenes, and they fit well with this game atmosphere. Overall, the graphics that visualize the game concept, characters, and other features give the player a sense of satisfaction. However, 3D graphics parts are somewhat unstable. Especially the scenes where the characters' motion is awkward are often seen. It would be better if they could be improved in future updates.

The sound part has great strengths in two aspects. One is the outstanding character voice acting and the other is background music. The voice support that brings the vibrant to the attractive characters makes the player more focused on the story. The game develop team showed confidence with introducing famous actors appearing in this game before release. The high quality of character voice support is its core game contents. And actually it was better than expected. In addition, the background music in this game is made to sound more attractive with unique system by scouting famous Japanese vocaloid composer. Normally, only the background music flows without vocals, and when the player enters the battle, the vocals appear and raise its game atmosphere. It is common for the lots of JRPG games to gradually get bored because of the repeated similar battles. But this game is different. Its sound effects with vocals makes the battle more exciting when player fights the enemy.


To summarize, 'The Caligula Effect: Overdose' is a good JRPG game with more than average quality. Its story is fast paced and enjoyable without boredom. It is expressed in a sophisticated manner in the inner dark side that modern people can sympathize with. It may seem a little childish in some cases, but the narrative composition is dense and the characters are really attractive. As mentioned in the sound part and graphics, the player can be immersed in the game, thanks to the high quality voice support of the voice actors and beautiful anime illustrations. Although there were some deficiencies in 3D graphics and battle play, the other attractive parts are even more prominent. Compared to AAA animation games, there are not many excellent points in this game. However, most parts have above average quality. It may well match Furyu's identity. So if you especially like anime games, this can be a worthwhile game.

RPG Bonds of the Skies. It's a little solid JRPG. If you are interested in mobile JRPG games, you may know KEMCO's reputation. KEMCO has been releasing nice mobile JRPG games. Recently, this publisher began porting their publishing games to multiple platforms like Steam, PS4, and Nintendo Switch. It is welcomed to be able to meet these nice JRPG style games that remind us of the classic JRPG again.

This game features a fantasy story about friendship between humans and gods. As time goes by, the influence of the Grimoas(Spirits) has began to diminish in everyday life. But fateful events always happen suddenly. Eil, the main character, was on his way to his Coming-of-Age ceremony, but his village was attacked by demons and swept into the flame. To solve this confusion, Eil makes a contract with Nogard, the Air Grimoa, to save people. To prevent the evil threats from spreading around the world, you and Nogard have an adventure to find more Grimoas friends. You will meet varios Grimoas with your human colleagues through these adventures.

RPG Bonds of the Skies. It is a classic JRPG style game with no particular drawbacks. Of course, as mentioned earlier, there are some deficiencies, but they are not fatal. Although the original version of the game has been around 5 years since its launch, it is a proven game that has already gained some popularity[imgur.com] on the mobile game market. Himeko Sutori. It is the large-scale strategy JRPG developed & published by Rockwell Studios. It is currently available as early access on Steam, but it has a fairly good potential. Above all, the campaign editor will play a good role in this game in the future. This game is packed with excitement about SRPG, along with classic nostalgia graphics.

The title of 'Himeko Sutori' means 'Princess Child Story'. According to developer comments, this includes the love and wink about classical Japanese games and their English localization. The dev team as well as the game is quite witty! Anyway, this game is a tactical turn-based JRPG style that featured great battles with epic character upgrowth like the Ogre Battle 64(1999).

Himeko Sutori. It is currently early access, but it has considerable potential. The SRPG games that make good use of classic style today are not common. This game has enough qualities to become the spiritual successor of such a genre that had been enjoyed the '90s. Of course, the content itself is not abundant yet. Papercraft. It just started as an early access, but this game showed good potential. It's a strategic adventure game with the fairy tale worldview. This game features interesting roguelike elements. Various hero, skill, and items are available in the game. Since the player gets new experiences for each game, the replay value of this game is high. It has particularly strategic elements. It requires strategic thinking. Your choice dominates the game. But do not worry. The tutorials in this game are kind. You can easily learn the basic rules about the gameplay.

Especially, its fairytale style artwork is impressive. It helps players immerse more in the story and world about the game. Beautiful, fantastic, sometimes destiny moments. These things are well described within the game. Of course the game is not perfect yet. The translations are not so smooth, and the game requires balance adjustments. The soundtrack is not bad, but it feels like a small number of tracks. But do not get me wrong. This game is still early access. This game is expected to get better through the update.

"CrossCode is an action arcade game full of beautiful pixel artworks & exciting puzzles."

CrossCode is a puzzle action game developed by Radical Fish Games. The game has been in development for quite some time, but fortunately CrossCode have graduated from Early Access with excellent quality. Currently, the game is published by Deck13, WhisperGames, DANGEN Entertainment, and Mayflower Entertainment. They are mainly related to localization & translation. It is thanks to good publishers that many Steam users enjoy this game with excellent translation quality. While many reviews have focused on the game itself, I wanted to comment on the role of good publishers at least once.

CrossCode is a retro-based, fast-paced, and 2D dot-action RPG. This game features a smooth physics engine with 16-bit SNES-style graphics. Thanks to those features, the player can fully enjoy the dynamic action in this game, and experience the CrossCode world filled with beautiful pixel artworks. The worldview in this game is MMO, but the real gameplay is single. However thanks to many unique characters, players can feel the online game experience vividly in the CrossCode World. Interaction with the various NPCs is another good feature point in this game. CrossCode's stories are exciting and include some mystery. As the plot expands, hidden secrets are revealed naturally. Players can solve various puzzles in the dungeon and grow your character like an RPG through combat and quests.

CrossCode is good enough overall, but not perfect. The first chapters are really fun. But after that, there are a lot of quests and puzzles that are somewhat repetitive. In addition, the puzzles can be difficult for beginners, and they can make you lose interest in the game. Certain puzzle levels and boss battles are quite difficult, and players are frustrated with them. In addition, the more complicated control settings and awkward jumping platform actions make the game more difficult. But not all of them block the game. It's challenging enough and can be overcome. Patience is an integral part in this game, but it makes it worthwhile.
