Unique, funny, and addicting! Getting all the achievements is very doable and satisfying, even if frustrating at times. I wish I could turn off the controller rumble, I wish I could sort the inventory, and I wish I could remap controls. Feels like some very strange oversights for a game designed by avid gamers. Other than those fairly minor complaints, I had a good time, and the game is worth while.

To its credit, the game is challenging, and the brutal themes are on point. That's where the praise ends, though. The controls are frustratingly unresponsive, which didn't kill it completely for me. What really pissed me off was going back to do side quests, only to find out they *can't be completed* because I went too deep into the end of the game. I had no warning, and the game auto-saves on a constant basis. No room for experimentation or exploration. You do it right the first time, or you go ♥♥♥♥ yourself. So, my 20 hours of game play are just out the window, because The Game Kitchen wanted to be "punishing". That's not what punishing game play looks like. It's disrespecting my time, and nothing more. Shame on you, The Game Kitchen! You could have had something wonderful here, but you took it too far!

I really wanted to like this game. "Terraria, but with space travel" sounds awesome! Unfortunately, the game balance is abysmal. Mobs are over-tuned and overpopulated, making the default difficulty feel like a challenge run meant for veterans. The hunger timer drains ruthlessly fast, and food is rare. This makes Starbound play more like a rogue-like, but without the meta-progression. Being on a timer to rush out, collect materials, and return to base to store them is not at all fun. It's a real shame. This game could have been incredible! Instead, it's a waste of money. :(
