I cannot give a neutral review on Steam, so consider this as one.

There is no understating the impact that Team Fortress 2 has had on the internet as a whole. I have played this game on and off since late 2008, so I have seen the best and the worst years for the game. This game is easily one of the best games ever made. Normally games released over a decade ago have grown aged and outdated but thanks to the arguably timeless art direction of the game and the beloved engine the game is built on, the game still holds up very well to this day in terms of visuals and overall feel when playing the game. Not to mention the very dedicated fanbase trying to keep their beloved game up and running.

However. Sadly, the time we live in is currently one of, if not the worst time for the game in it's history. Valve has essentially completely abandoned the game. Even after the #SaveTF2 movement some years ago, bots are running rampant on casual servers ruining the experience for everyone that just want to play the game and Valve is doing absolutely nothing to fix the issue. No any significant updates since 2017. The only updates you could even consider to be notable, are the Halloween and Christmas event updates. But even then, the maps and cases that get released at those times are all community made and most of the content is recycled from previous years. The only reason I am not going to downvote this game for the state that it has been left rotting in, is because the game is free-to-play, so there is really nothing to lose if you decide to download and play this game for the first time. The only reason I personally ever boot this game up nowadays, is to play on community servers.

Whether or not Team Fortress 2 is ever going to get upgraded to the Source 2 engine like CSGO did, is anyone's guess. But, I'll be waiting.
