Early Access Review
Works well on the Steam Deck. I get some graphical glitches with the HUD and menus though. Besides that it causes my wife to leave me and go to her parent's house.

Pros:
Firearm representation in a fun way
In-depth gun disassembly
The ability to make the most cursed camos on the planet
Proper safe gun usage is shown
Full auto weaponry is present
A lot of minigames like cleaning, woodworking, etc

Cons:
Camera controls can be confusing. Sometimes the camera uses WASD, other times, it's left/right mouse button, and sometimes it uses the middle mouse button depending on what you're doing.

Something feels off when you're manipulating firearms at the shooting range. It feels sluggish to me.

Things I'd suggest:
Instead of an automatic safety check, it would be interesting if sometimes the weapons came in loaded, and it was up to you to safety check the firearm before doing work. Some models such as the Glock require you to pull the trigger before the weapon can be disassembled, and this has led to a lot of people accidentally shooting while cleaning.

While painting, it would be nice if you had the option to spray paint instead of painting whole parts. This would be more realistic, and really make each weapon unique.

In the same vein, custom checkering/engraving would be interesting too. This could be accomplished by changing the bump-map maybe.

Overall, I enjoyed this demo. Can't wait to see the full game!

Pros: More weapons, enemies, and environments.
Interesting tapes talking about history, gun safety, and more.
Weapons are more satisfying this time around.
Looks prettier.

Cons: I'll start with what annoyed me the least then work my way up.

Movement mechanics: I think it's nice that they have an option for a sprint button, but in reality, it's just a macro that taps W for you. What this led to was my character running in front of turrets and dying on repeated occasions, because I was preparing to run past it. I also think it's weird there is a pseudo mantle feature in the game. You can spam space to climb objects that are around head height, but this made the game too easy, so I didn't really do it much.

Also falling 2 feet can kill you sometimes.

Progression system: There are 5 levels in the game, each with new weapons and enemies. If you die, you go down a level, and if you gain all the tapes, you go up. At the time of writing, Wolfire pushed a patch that makes it so quitting the game doesn't level you down. What is so bad about this you may ask? Well to unlock more guns, tapes, and enemies, you have to go up levels. When you have been stuck at level 3 or 4 for reasons that I will get into later, you can understand why this is aggravating. I leave you with this tip: If you are stuck: type INSIGHT while playing.

Under-baked: This game has SOOO much cut content, missing features, and optimization problems. It makes me worry that Wolfire just ran out of funding and pushed it early so they could continue working on the game later. If they did do this, they should've released it under the "Early Access" tag, instead of releasing it as a full game. The sounds for some guns sound place holder (Compare the
Deagle and the 1911 ), and some sounds are missing entirely, spewing errors in the console. The optimization could also use some work. I am running a 2070 Super with a 2700x and I still get frame drops in certain modules. Some of the cut content I mentioned before includes:
A "Sniper bot", a Gunship, a totally different tutorial with firing range, more tapes, modules, and more enemies. There even is a missing ending sequence, similar to Receiver 1's. The ending featured in Receiver 2 just kicks you back to level 1 after some exposition. The reason why this is bad is because Wolfire likes to take their sweet time to do anything (Which isnt a bad thing). Just look at the development cycle for Overgrowth. It was announced in 2008, and released on steam in 2017 in Early access. What I'm saying is treat this game as an early access title. Things are likely to get changed, added, or removed. Many of this game's bugs are likely to get squashed if you give it enough time.

METAL GEAR: When I think of Receiver, I think of handling firearms in extremely hairy and stressful situations. Levels 4 and 5 though... They just feel like a first person Metal Gear game, which is good, if it was a Metal Gear game. You spend so little time in level 5 operating your firearm because of 2 reasons: the little amount of enemies, and you get so little ammo, which wouldn't be a bad thing if there were more enemy types that chased you instead of those drone things. Maybe if there were armored turrets that rolled around, or some of that aforementioned cut content. It just doesn't feel as hectic as Receiver 1 somehow.

TL:DR: Buy receiver 1, then if you like it and want to support the future of the series, buy this one too.

I used to play this game ALOT before the steam release, and after all this time, its still one of the best HL1 mods of all time.
Heres some Pros:
-Easy to run
-Comes with HALF LIFE 1 FREE
-Play with friends and strangers
-Custom maps and other sorts of modding
-No paid DLC
Now heres a couple of Cons:
-Not good textures (I dont mind this personally.)
-Can sometimes be buggy
-Might be kids on now
Theres 0 reason for you not to get this!

The developers of this game care. They listen to their community. They dont try to cheat you out of your money like H1Z1 or other modern games. So far id recommend this, but if your not sure, i'd watch some youtube videos first or just wait till its more of a finished game.
